Wow, my mom had several of these wooden molds and when I saw your video I remembered my mom working on the hats, just like you show in your video. She was Italian and came to Brazil, set up a hat shop that had customers from São Paulo society and even artists, I think at the time of 1950. Good memories of my mom watching your video.

Thank you so much for this video! I love hats, can you explain or demonstrate how you attached the wire to brim.
@kristenpeterssen57674 жыл бұрын
Use Migg wire, hold it with one hand and zig zag stitch the brim to the wire, go around twice before covering with a bias strip with a straight stitch. Careful as you're covering the wire though, if you're not paying attention you'll blunt your needle!

@@kristenpeterssen5767 Thank you so much!!! I have attempted to zig zag wire to the brims, but it's not my thing. I decided to hand sew the wire by hand. You have inspired me and I have been making hats for a year now. Unfortunately, hat blocks are pretty expensive, so I decided to make my own blocks.
@kristenpeterssen57674 жыл бұрын
@@Skater51 you can even use large Tupperware bowls for blocks! Lots of things will work, I have special fiberglass blocks but get creative. Even elastic bands rather than pins work to secure sinamay. Keep all your little scraps of sinamay to make fascinators. X

@@kristenpeterssen5767 yes, thanks. I've been very creative for sure. I have 23 years as a floral designer so I love to use what I have. I make my blocks out of foam and wood filler. I work with sinamay, buckram and all kinds of fabrixs. Thanks so much for your tips.
