I Speak Astronomy would be a good one for her to listen to. Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air 2019 is also good. There's only a few all clean songs because it is that genre but Bad Water is one and then there are two very short songs usually reacted to together called Beggars Dance and Prologue which don't have much for videos but they are on KZbin and they are good.

O.K. Suzie get ready!!! This woman is from a different planet... A few points you may know or not -- I'll make you two a brief list.............. 1. Jinjer is Ukrainian band formed in 2008. 2. The singer is Tayiana Shmayluk and she is 37 years old, born in 1987. 3. She taught herself how to do this technique.... 4, She is known as the Queen of Scream!! 5, For too long I did not focus on the other members. But each one of them is really GOOD too!! 6. Do yourselves a favor and review some of their live work!!!! Such at Wacken...... 7. She has a video on KZbin of her doing her stage makeup. I watched so I could hear her speak. 8. She smokes and says she does not do anything special for her voice. 9. One thing I'm certain of is she takes control of the show & stage. You two will see what I mean when you watch her live work.... 10. I submit to you all that Jinjer is the BEST thing to ever come out of the former U.S.S,R. I hope you all liked it. Thanks for the video! I want to wish you all a great 2024!!!!!!!!!

I looked through several comments and haven't seen this mentioned, but since the drums were mentioned a couple of times, you really should know Vlad's story. Vlad was a classically trained pianist that took up guitar and joined a band. The band then lost their drummer and was having a hard time finding a replacement, so Vlad taught himself to play drums, as the band figured it would be easier to replace a guitarist. Then a little bit later he joined Jinjer, and he just wrote most of the songs on their new album.

Perhaps we should point out that they made this recording and video to showcase their then-new drummer (he hadn't performed on the album version: the band has had more drummers than Spinal Tap) -- but it didn't quite work out that way! (Vlad is now their longest-serving drummer.)

@@theonlinemusicschool - Yeah, they didn't think the spotlight would shift to Tatiana. They only made this video because, despite being a very personal song for a Pisces' native like Tatiana, it was one of the band's least favourite songs in the album. They've always felt like it was lacking something, so when Vlad put his spin on it, the band felt like the song now had what it needed and they wanted to show their "scarce" following (at the time) what the new drummer was capable of. Both Tatiana and Eugene (the bassist) have said in multiple interviews that they weren't expecting much of the video, to them it was more like fulfilling the sense of finishing something that was somewhat left unfinished in the album than really trying to make people notice it. But then the reaction channels found it and it blew up in a direction they were not expecting and to a scale they could've never imagined, to the point that when asked about the success of this song their usual reaction was to roll their eyes. 😄

Suzie: Tatiana does this by using her false vocal folds, not her true ones, so she never has to strain and she will never hurt her cords. If you are interested, @TheCharismaticVoice (Elizabeth Zharoff) does a video where she has extreme singer Will Ramos swallow a camera to see how this occurs; Elizabeth also has an over 1-hour interview with Tatiana. My recommendation for a next song to view is either Teacher Teacher, or Who Will be the One, both of which shows how Tati can switch on a dime between growl and clean- or Perennial, from Wachen, ,which is a last song of the set but still has Tati kicking it out despite her exhaustion. The band itself are all master musicians, too. This video was actually done to showcase Vlad on drums (listen to those ghost notes!), as he had just joined. As for Eugene on bass, check on Who Will be the One live. He's astonishing.

There are a few songs in their catalog that are without the harsh vocals, I think Black Water and my favorite Beggar's Dance and King of Everything, which are bookends to the album King of Everything and work as a prologue and outro. There are also songs that have only a small section of harsh vocals, such as Wallflower and I Speak Astronomy, and even to some degree Teacher Teacher and Perrinnal. There are songs that are almost entirely harsh vocals, Who's Going to be the one, Sit Stay Rollover comes to mind, but most of the catalog is between a 30/70 and 40/60 split of Harsh to clean vocals. Some are just hard to place as well and the harsh vocals aren't as dominant, one of my all-time favorites of Jinjer is their track Outlander, and I am not sure the harsh vocals in that song are in the same category as the harsh vocals in others. She has an even wider range vocally than what this song demonstrates, for instant she gets to a higher register in Teacher Teacher, and a lower growl in Pit of Consciousness as well in Home Back, but the most shocking low growl has to be in Vortex where you will walk away swearing you could actually hear her vocal tissue slap together for the last low drop. In Beggar's Dance, the style isn't prog metal, and the entire band's range can be heard, as well as her vocals. In other songs, they mix genres like reggae and metal in Judgement and Punishment for example.

If I may suggest a couple good bands. One established and one up and coming. The up and comer is a band called The Cost. It's heavy groove metal. Like Tool and Queens of the Stone Age had a baby. Three very talented musicians. They only have a couple songs out now with another coming out in the next couple weeks. The other band is one from India called Bloodywood. They call their style Indian street metal. Any of their songs are good and every single one of them has a very strong message behind the music. They tell a story and teach a lesson all in one. Very worth checking out both of them.

from what Ive heard from vocal coaches like chris liepe. It uses your false vocal chords (vestibular folds)not your true vocal chords. so your voice doesnt get used yet, unless you mix in your true chord. this is different than fry screams its is also used in something called throat singing (check out the hu) honestly, if you take 10 minutes and practice every day for a month, you can hit it. The issue is hitting it, once you hit it, you can feel where it is.

I believe it's the dichotomy between real vocal cords and false vocal cords. To sing in harsh the false vocal cords have to be engaged. Since it's not common for folks to use this, you have to train them to release that air/sound.

Jinjer are class, all four are epic musicians. Worth reading the lyrics, Tatiana I’d a poet, I believe she writes the lyrics in Ukrainian and then translates them to English. This one has lots of imagery and double meanings, many of her lyrics are pretty deep tackling mental health and political situations. If you want to know more about Harsh vocals then watch The Charismatic Voice put an endoscope down Will Ramos’ throat, fascinating.

The only song I know where there is no Growls is "Bad Water", and it is indeed worth listening to. However, there is only two chrouses of SCreaming in "I Speak Astronomy" and the song is Amazing. They can actually help you get an ear for the Growl because of the flips. They don't have a bad song at all. There's at least 20 of them out there you can react to and you'll be amazed by the singing and the technicality of the band, and their composition. Thank you for your recognition of the band because they are incredible.Vlad, the drummer is a classical pianist who took up drums as a hobby, how talented is that guy? Jinjer is not a one trick pony, they mix many styles in with their progressive metal, including reggae. Next you should check out Perrenial live at Wacken open air 2019, it's the last song of their set and you can see what a beast Tatiana really is. Also, check out Teacher Teacher the official video, Judgement and Punishment the one take vocal which is ridiculous, Vortex the official video, Pit of consciousness live in Kiev, Who's gonna be the one live, Wallflower the official video. There is just so much to see from them. The more to listen the more you'll appreciate the hole band, they are amazing! Thanks for the review. I hope you take a deep dive into them, if you do I'll subscribe for sure.

The look on her face! Priceless! 😂🤣😂🤣 Definitely real! Seen them live 4 times. Such an awesome live band! 😁 You want to see other ladies making a sound like that, check out Arch Enemy, The Agonist, Crypta...There are so many women that can get some amazing sounds out of their voices. Though Tatiana is one of the most amazing vocalists you'll ever hear.

🔥Welcome to Jinjer, Suzie and Nathan! I just found your channel, saw your Jinjer reaction and subbed, great reaction! Suzie, no worries if this isn't your cup of tea, but I hope you'll try a few more before you're sure! Thank you both for bringing the fantastic genre twisting music of Jinjer to more people! I love their energy, how tight they are, how down to earth they are, the heaviness mixed with complexity and groove, beautiful singing and growling and especially Tatiana's lyrics! The first time I heard Pisces in 2019, I hadn't liked any metal with growling and it took me a few listens to start liking it, but now Tatiana is my favorite vocalist and Jinjer my favorite band (Pisces has been my wake up alarm for a few years and I still love it more every time I hear it, snooze is a thing of the past). TLDR: skip to the last paragraph 😂 Sorry for the long comment, I just love Jinjer too much and love seeing people discover (and usually fall in love with) them and each of their songs! My three favorite comments about Jinjer that I've seen, "terrifying levels of talent", "I hate it when a Jinjer song ends", and "that was more unexpected than my first child" 🤣 All four current members of Jinjer have essentially no formal musical training except Vlad the drummer who studied classical piano. For most of their songs, the three guys write most of the instrument music, then Tatiana writes most of the lyrics and melodies (she gets tons of well deserved credit for her vocal and stage performance abilities, but maybe not quite enough for her lyrical and musical composition abilities). Roman the guitarist has written a lot of the instrument music in the past, so he's a huge part of the beautiful sound of Jinjer, but Vlad the drummer (who also plays guitar and classical piano, but so far not in most Jinjer songs - I think he played piano in lainnereP) has been writing more of it and wrote nine of the eleven songs for the latest album Wallflowers. Eugene composes some - he wrote the instrument music for one song on Wallflowers and a few songs on other albums, and I know that apart from his amazing work on the bass, he adds riffs and has written lyrics for a few Jinjer songs. Jinjer has been a tour-heavy band, touring almost nonstop from 2013 to 2020 and much of the time since then (with interruptions by covid and the US backed coup/proxy war), hard work that has made them fantastic live performers. The band (all members have been Ukrainian, with Russian their first language) started in eastern Ukraine (Donetsk) in 2008 as a group of three (then five) with none of the current members (they consider the official start of the band when Tatiana replaced the male vocalist and Roman joined as lead guitar 2009/2010), Vlad is the fifth drummer (joined in 2016) and it's been a group of four since 2015 (though they consider their road sound engineer Sasha to be a fifth member). I think they're still friends with all the former members and you can see their former guitarist turned actor, Dmitry Oksen, in older videos on guitar and a more recent video (Disclosure) playing an interrogator. One of the things I love most about Jinjer is the messages in Tatiana's lyrics and the way she combines growling and beautiful singing with Jinjer's fantastic instrumentals to be so powerful for expressing the anger and pain in those messages: the anti-war message in Home Back, the anti-greed in On The Top, Mediator and No Hoard Of Value (also the horror of the coal mining industry in their home Ukraine), the protest song Who Is Gonna Be The One, the anti-fascism of Sit Stay Roll Over, the anger at people being narrow minded in Teacher Teacher and Judgment & Punishment, the struggles with mental health in Pit Of Consciousness, Vortex, Wallflower and Perennial, the giving voice to mother nature angry at humanity for letting capitalism destroy her in a bunch of songs like Ape, The Prophecy, Cloud Factory, Noah, Outlander and Bad Water. Other favorites are I Speak Astronomy, Retrospection, Words of Wisdom, Just Another, Captain Clock, Scissors, Exposed As A Liar, I Want It I'll Get It, A Plus Or A Minus, Dip A Sail, When Two Empires Collide, lainnereP, Prologue and Beggar's Dance (those last two are short album bookends that could do well together in one reaction if you're so inclined). I haven't found a Jinjer song I don't love, so I think you can't go wrong if you choose any of them, but a few good choices might be Perennial (official and/or live at Wacken 2019, both are must-see), Teacher Teacher (official), Judgement & Punishment (official and/or Tatiana's one take performance, again both must-see), Pit of Consciousness (official and/or live in Kiev/Kyiv, a third where both are absolutely must-see) or the heartwrenching plea against war in Home Back (official video). Thank you, Suzie and Nathan! I hope you'll keep trying out more Jinjer songs and enjoy! ❤🖤🤘
