I have recently inherited the same motor with the same issue. I imagine a carb cleaning will be in order. For the time being couldn't I let it warm up with the choke (no throttle) , snap the choke off, put into gear and then throttle up as a good practice for protecting the clutch? A bit of a pain but this sequence seems to work testing it in a barrel. Great channel too. Thanks for these Suzuki videos, they've been a real boost.

I’ve just purchased one of these Suzuki 2.5 motors. It’s replacing a Johnson 3hp for exactly the reason you mention - it needs to work properly all of the time. I may at some point be able to repair the Johnson but I want to be out on the water right now with a dependable motor. Generally speaking, if an engine exhibits good performance at wide open throttle, you can rule out the ignition system as being associated with an idle problem. Your warnings about a high idle causing potential damage to the clutch dogs is spot on and my Johnson 3hp has issues of popping out of gear because of this type of damage - the replacement parts are expensive.

I agree - I love my 2.5 but just needs looking after

I have the same motor DF2.5 2009 for my Multi23 Trimaran. I live in Seattle, so moderate climate and at sea level. My engine would never idle except with some choke on, even when warm. I cleaned the carb and changed jets. Maybe a little better. I ended up just purchasing a new carburetor online, plus new gaskets. CARBURETOR *{MODEL:08~}* 13200-97J40 With the new carb, it ran nearly perfect. Also, the idle RPM is higher than your ear may tell you. I bought a tachometer and found out that I was trying to set the idle RPM too low. So I set it to factory spec. Runs better. But I ended up with a Torqeedo Travel 1003. That's another story. Sad story now. My motor fell in Lake Union (freshwater) last week, and the divers just retrieved it. I found your channel looking for maintenance advice. Lots of water in the carb. I drained the engine oil and fuel tank and they were full of water. Removed the spark plug and turned the engine upside down and maybe some water came out. Sprayed everything with WD-40, carb, cylinder, intake manifold. I was surprised with draining the oil. The engine was upright on a stand. I decided to move and tilt the engine all around, and I was surprised how much additional oil and water came out. So I'm going to fill the crankcase with oil, run it, drain it, and repeat a few times. Wish me luck.

Good luck with it dude. I fixed mine with an ultrasonic cleaner. cant believe it went swimming after putting a new carb on.

Hi there I have just bought a 3.3 meter Bark inflatable boat with this engine do you think it will be enough power for the boat on the river Thames thank you 😊
@dp472804 жыл бұрын
The question is always is it powerful enough for the conditions , not is it powerful enough for the boat.... within reason of course. Yes it will push the boat and you MAY get onto the plane. However if you can’t get onto the plane then you will only run at displacement speed which is much slower and then you may find the tide on the Thames is faster than you can travel. In that case the motor won’t be big enough. Hope that helps make you decision. Good luck. It will certainly move the boat though!!!!

BeMoreBear thank you I will be using it on the non tidal part of the Thames testing it soon it seems like a nice little outboard thanks for the help
