I also like the Rotella. I've been riding over 54 years had many many bikes of all breeds. Last one Honda st 1300 that I used Rotella exclusively. When I got Rid of it, it had 50k miles and still didn't use 1 but of oil. Now I have my 650 Burgman and I can't see why I should change oil type or brand. Thanks for your videos. With all the bikes I've had, I wish I had my Burgman years ago, it handles like a sport bike and it's extremely comfortable. Keep the shiny side up

Disassembly tip: You don't have to pick the center pin out in those clips. You actually push them IN to release them. You only have to push the pin in 2-3mm, you'll feel it release, then take a screwdriver and pop the clip out of the panel.

Just a quick thank you for spurring me into action to do my own basic servicing on my 2010 Burgman 650. I've had my bike from new and always relied on the dealer I bought it from. They closed shop 18 months ago and the nearest dealership is a big multi make place who I find too impersonal and I wasn't happy with their service. The last time I did an oil change on a bike was about 40 years ago (I'm 71 now) but I have now changed the engine, transmission and final drive oil successfully. I'm going to tackle the coolant change next! Thanks again.

The 2 full turns on the filter is for an OEM Suzuki filter because it uses an round o-ring seal and aftermarket uses a flat rubber seal so NO, you don't go 2 full turns with an aftermarket filter. Basically just hand tighten it. You can't use the service manual instructions for non OEM Products.
@ManCaveMayhem
@ManCaveMayhem 4 жыл бұрын
You still have to really crank on the aftermarket ones too or they will leak. More than 3/4

I had a BSA Golden Flash 650 twin in the sixties, I always used Shell Rotella 10W30 in the engine and straight SAE 30 in the gearbox, I changed the engine oil every 4,000 miles and the gearbox every 8,000 miles with absolutely no problems at all. I did nearly 50,000 miles on that bike and only sold it when I got pissed off getting wet through and bought a car. I never put any oil in the engine between oil changes and that engine never missed a beat and started first kick every morning even in winter. It was always garaged at night ready for my early start in the morning,what a machine that was.

Helpful video. You can change the engine and transmission oil without removing any plastic, except the maintenance lid. The transmission oil can be refilled through the oil level plug, which is accessible with all plastic in place. I use aluminum crush washers on the plugs, if necessary. I stick to Motul 5100 or Motul 7100, and use a good quality filter.

That said,I think removing the plastic and replacing the plastic clips/fasteners if you haven't done it before is great. Literally, all of my clips were missing or broken on my brand new to me, used bergman LOL. I don't know exactly how important they are but I feel better knowing they are all in good shape.

One thing I learned from the automotive industry, Fram filters are garbage... Bad gaskets, thin crappy paper filters, elmers glue'd cardboard inside to hold everything, and even straight out of the box, you'll find rust and metal shavings. K&N is a good filter, but Wix is the best quality oil filter out there.

Interesting machine, the Burgman. On the oil - the key thing to avoid is any oil with an API label that says: “Energy Conserving” or anything like that. That label indicates the presence of additive that will cause the wet clutch to slip.

Have a question hopefully you can answer. I am about to purchase a 2003 Burgman 650 that has been sitting roughly five years. Other than the obvious changing all the fluid and plugs and tires what should I be looking for as far as possible things needing to be fixed? The person I'm getting it from says his father couldn't ride is Harley any more so he decided to get the Burgman and still had issues riding it so it's been sitting underneath his balcony covered up..

Those burgman’s have a lifetime belt that sometimes will break. If they do it’s expensive to fix. I would make sure all things are working properly before you make a commitment. Also there is a CVT belt filter that needs to be kept clean so that belt doesn’t overheat and break. Hope this helps. Ride safe👍🏻🇺🇸

@@ManCaveMayhem okay thank you very much. I only thought the CVT filter was on the 400. When I purchased my wife's 400. The first thing I did was replace that belt and make sure the filter was clear based on watching your videos. But it's more of a project bike I'm in no big hurry it's mainly to gives me something to do this winter now that I have moved from California to Virginia. So the plan is to change, all the fluids and replacing all filters and see if I can get it started. Probably enjoy it for the rest of this year if it starts😁, and then tear into it when it starts to get cold this way I can at least enjoy it a little bit. ( I hope )

@@ManCaveMayhem Hi. This is misleading. The clutch is lubricated by the engine oil via the pipe below the sump. The transmission is a separate chamber containing only the reduction gear. The clutch is not in this box and the oil, albeit the same type, is not lubricating the clutch. Personally, I keep it simple. I use only the "Brand Name" Filter and Oil. Yes, it is a little more costly, but not bad. In my Honda, I use Honda Oil and Filter. Same for my Kawasaki Mule Side-by-Side, I use on my property. I've never had an issue by using the Manufacture's Products. And yes, I know they do not make their own oil. I just know it is what they recommend to use. Just easy for me! Peace all. Have fun out there!

Rotella T4 is a non-synthetic oil Rotella T5 is a synthetic blend and Rotella T6 is fully synthetic. It’s oil that’s designed for diesel trucks but works in wet clutch applications. So it’s good to use for motorcycles.

Thank you for the video. At the moment I own 2 bikes, a cruiser and a street bike and have been thinking of replacing them with a Burgman 650 executive. If you can answer a couple of questions for me please. Years back I test drove a 2007 and on the bad roads I drove the suspension was not that good, any solution for that ? Also, do you get any bothersome heat coming off the bike on hot days ? Finally, what is your opinion on 2012 vs 2013 and newer model. Thanks again.
@ManCaveMayhem
@ManCaveMayhem 4 жыл бұрын
The Suzuki Burgman 650 tends to be a little rough riding. Maybe it’s because of the tire size or the suspension. As far as the newer bike I can’t really give an opinion because I’ve never ridden one. I have never noticed any heat coming off the bike in excess. I hope this helps thanks again for watching.

I bought a 2013 six months ago. I put 6000 miles on it so far and love it. Only two negatives I can say is the stock seat sucks and the suspension is terrible on rough roads. An air hawk seat cushion helps a ton.I love everything else about it And it can do 110 mph riding two Up

I just had my local dealer install 2 tires and do an oil change on my 05 burgman 650. $475 total. Great video but if the manual calls for 10/40 why would you put 5/40 diesel oil in it? That's silly. Spend a few more bucks and get a good 10/40 from your local walmart when you get your filter. ALSO WHAT IS THAT SEAT!? it looks so comfy! I have been using a RoHo Large inflatable seat cushion (w/the stock seat) but they're expensive and only last about 18 months. I was going to sell my burgman this year but it's been such an awesome scooter that I've decided to keep it for another season at least. The efi (no carburetor) guarantees a quick, smooth start every time. Ethanol does not negatively effect this fuel system even during long winter storage like carbureted engines. I've owned my burgman for about 8 years and can't say enough good about it. I do hate the overly hard stock seat though.

bigbusa1 Alot of your motorcycle synthetics are 5w/40 weight The diesel oil is has wet clutch applications and is synthetic. I’ve been running it for many miles and had no issues. But that being said I may be going back to regular Dino oil soon due to the possibility of oil migration in the crankcase. Thanks for your input and thanks for watching😎👍🏻

corey foss sometimes oil from the crankcase can get into the cylinder if the bike was on it’s side for awhile causing it to smoke but it should burn off and the smoke will dissipate after it runs for a while.

Removing Tupperware for an oil change? That seems like a likely cause for damaging the Tupperware after just a few changes. How easy it is on my Suzuki V-Strom compared to this. I hadn't considered that a big scooter might require this, but now I am thinking of swapping my V-Strom for a big scooter, info like this is handy. I would leave it to the dealer for the duration of the warranty as it's a condition, but after that I'd do it myself. Wet clutch and wet CVT, too? That's what it looks like from that line diagram on the bike body. I must have misunderstood that. Thanks for the video. EDIT O.K., I have just watched the other two videos of yours about oil changes. I can see that the above mentioned diagram did not show oil for the CVT (which would be ridiculous) but rather it was final drive oil, which makes perfect sense. Thanks.
