Suzuki DR650 with GSXR 1000 Titanium Exhaust (x40F0x)

I managed to score an excellent condition 2001 GSXR 1000 titanium exhaust (x40F0x) for my DR650. I adapted it to my bike using the Kientech midpipe. The sound is great. Not much louder than stock but it has a nice, deeper tone. The built in mic on my D800 isn't doing this exhaust justice. I'll try to shoot another video with a boom mic, or perhaps I'll give my Fuji X-E1 a try.

I'm using headphones and the drive by's are awesome, you can hear it louder as you get farther away.

Great demo of the Gixxer mod. The fly by's really showcase the sound difference. Headphones help too. I have a X30F0X waiting to be installed. It's killer that the itty bitty mid pipe is $225 + shipping when I bought the muffler for $20.

yes, a great difference to sound as well as performance. I have the same end pipe combined with big bore exhaust and Mikuni pumper carb. Like you, I find the front wheel comes up effortlessly. Throttle response is now immediate and powerful compared to the "rubber band" type reaction when standard.

Nice! I have the same setup, except with a Keihin carb. I tried to record it with my iPhone 4 and it just doesn't pick up the low end at all....plus the stock muffler weighs a TON compared to the x40F0x. Greetings from Michigan!

Great sound and less decel popping, but I don't like that it is flush with the tail (and its a small 40F0 type). If I loop the bike practicing wheelies, its trashed, even with the racks around it. It also dropped the springs within the first few rides, I'm going to have to safety wire them on or something.

sweftwp This was my first bike and it was a great start. I believe it is around 40hp stock. The ProCycle jet kit really woke it up. I'm not sure how much power it added but it made a big difference in drivability.

sweftwp it was my first bike, great idea, it just begs for a lot of modifications. unless you're set on buying new id look for a good used one with lots of mods already done to save money.

+Stephen A . Agreed. You buy this bike to play with it. It is so responsive to changes which is what makes it such fun. The other thing is that all the mods can be done one by one when the dollars are available. I have some 17" cast wheels to make it a motard in the city and save the off-road tyres.

I can't say I noticed any additional power from the muffler/mid-pipe install. Jetting the carb made a significant difference in power and delivery.

Carry Smith No, it improved the entire RPM range. Low down torque improvements made 1st gear much more usable. Notice the front wheel coming off the ground while rolling into the throttle at 1:14? Never did that before jetting.

2phalanges It can be lowered from the factory. There are two shock linkage holes on the DR650 rear shock, can lower about an inch and then lower the preload and lower it even more. Then you just slide the fork tubes up the clamps an inch. There's another way to lower the front but you need to take the forks apart. To get even lower seat height get a lower seat. You may also need a lower side stand also because the bike will stand too upright. The DR650 is probably the most height challenged friendly dual sports out there.

Great job! i am fixing to do the same to my DR 650,,but i have yet to locate a x40f0x Titanium muffler like yours. Would you happen to have a extra one for sale? or if anyone else has a 2001/02 gsxr 1000 OEM exhaust for sale,please pm me.. Thanks! The best way I found to locate a 40f0 muffler is to search craigslist for '01-'02 GSXR 1000 bikes for sale. Find the ones that have an aftermarket muffler and email the owner asking if he/she has the stock muffler and willing to sell. It took me about 15-20 emails before I scored this near mint muffler for $75. Happy hunting!

+Rick T IMHO, the titanium can is overrated. My buddy found one on ebay, got it on his bike with the procycle mid-pipe kit, and sure it sounds very good. However they're becoming harder to find and sellers are asking way too much now. I picked up an aluminum X33EO off a 90's GSXR 750, it cost me $25 bucks, and I easily got it on my DR also with the procycle kit. It sounds THE SAME as the 'busa can, and looks identical too. Maybe weighs a few ounces over the X40. The engine now breathes better, spins up really nice, and I haven't even got my new pumper carb on yet.
