Suzuki Intruder VS1400: Headstock Bearing Replacement 2/2 - Rebuild Part 3

Today we re-install the lower steering stem bearing for the Suzuki VS1400 Intruder. Then we reassemble and install the stock triple tree on to the bike. If you haven't seen Part 1 of this video, head on over to the link below first so that you are up to date with how this process is completed.

This is the biggest project I have taken on, The bike will be completely stripped down to the frame, the engine will be removed for new piston rings to be installed, the wiring harness is going to be rewired and the entire bike overhauled, ready for spring 2020....I hope.

To get the lower ring out was hell. But did find an old video with (insert name) and he used a wrench, irontube/rod and hammer. It took some time but finally I got it out. Lower bearing I did just as you. All installed and finnished now. Didnt have the tool for upper nut, the one with the 4 slices/holes. So I made my own by drilling and put in 2 screws in a 36 mm wrenchhead. Have pics if you wanna see😂

i did this to my 1996 1400. ever since reassembly I've had a hard time with how the bike handles- like it can't find it's center, won't stay in a straight line, handlebar movement side to side not up and down . I read this could be due to that spanner nut being too tight. I've spent a month gradually backing it off and testing the ride and it gets better but no full fix. i took it to a local shop to see what they think. they torqued that spanner nut according to the manual (torque then back off a 1/4 turn) and now it handles like it did when i first reassembled (super cockeyed handling at the front). does this factory torque setting really matter? I've never heard of that nut being torqued, but usually as you said "to your liking". The shop doesn't want to send me off with an ill-adjusted nut (liability), but they are perplexed. Help!
