Many people like myself are not considered music prodigies. Due to circumstances many of us didn't start an instrument like piano or violin at a young age. We got into playing as adult with no help from our parents. It's a common perception that children learn faster. Doesn't stop many adult (some retired folks) learning a second language or playing an instrument. I've seen many adult learners master a foreign language to a basic conversation level. The last thing we shouldn't do is to stereotype all adults are slow learners or can't acquire a new skill. We just learn differently. Suzuki was not able to master basic German. There are people like him while others pick up new words & phrases easily. The English language is full of foreign words & phrases. We would pick them up even as adults. A few French or German words in an English conversation wouldn't be enough to speak a foreign language but people pick them up without giving much thought.

Very good points! I teach adults also and you are right, they are playing beautifully. In fact, on my Patreon.com/millermusicstudios I have a Track (Course) especially geared towards adult beginners. Thank you for your insights.

As an adult, I feel like I can learn things faster because I can understand things better and know how to look for patterns, etc.

NGL, I used Suzuki cello in junior high, so in my 40s I’d go back to it to learn piano.

Thank you... Question though. If the child gets in the habit of playing 16th notes, etc for Twinkle, Twinkle or any other song, will they get confused or frustrated when it is time to play it like it really sounds?
@MillerMusicStudiosTV
@MillerMusicStudiosTV 4 жыл бұрын
Good question, Steve. There are 4 parts to the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Variation A is the rhythm 4 sixteenth notes and 2 eighth notes. Variations B and C are different rhythms. Variation D is the actual song. The child learns by listening and this develops aural training. Suzuki is the fast track to the classics. Join me on Patreon.com/MillerMusicStudios to learn all of the progressive Suzuki pieces

That's interesting, but what if you are already an adult, is it too late for the Suzuki method? Or can you still follow it ? Do you know about the method developed by Harold Rhodes ? I couldn't find much information about the details of it, but apparently he developed it to teach soldiers returning from WWII how to play the piano. Thanks.

Actually, I have many students who are even 6 years of age to adults who do very well with this program. I always supplement my teaching the Suzuki approach with also the Conservatory approach so music reading is developed at the same rate as rote learning and ear training. Just like mastering any language, it involves listening, speaking (playing the music), reading and writing the language - music is no different. I am teaching on the various levels on my patreon.com/millermusicstudios and I hope you join me there!

I started at 60 years old with the suzuki method and I am up to song for in book 2. The songs sound complicated, but once I learn them, the fingering is easy.
