A three day 800 mile trip into Wyoming from my home in Breckenridge Co.
My first adventure on the highways with a cruiser.

I had a 2005 bought it brand new and loved it. Had lots of power and was even able to get the front wheel off the ground lol. Very nimble comfortable, loved the straight bars. My brother has an S83 and I could smoke him.

I bought my 2005 s50 3 years ago, for getting to work/school it will last forever. Ive always wanted to go on long trips with it but worried it might not be able to handle long distance stuff. Glad someone did it and recorded it. I might plan on doing the same!

This was a very good video. You had a great attitude. I really like the "Awesome" overlay early in the vid when you talked about the storm onnthe horizon. That's part of why we ride! I have Suzuki VStrom 650 (2011) and am thinking of adding to the fleet. Have a brother that had an Intruder a long time ago while I was stationed overseas. (He has a Vulcan 2000 now). I like the looks of Intruders (and C50s too) so I am just checking reviews out. Thanks again!

Being my first cruiser I don’t have much experience to judge but I do love the power to weight ratio of the S50. 440 lbs and 50Hp. Lots of torque. Pulls like a train. Comfortable for a guy 5’8” tall. Thanks for watching!

Great trip. Great video. Loved the scenery out west. Currently in the deep freeze in northern NY, but I'm going to look at an S50 tomorrow to take out this summer on some road trips. Check out the Adirondacks in NY. Amazing scenery, 6 million acres, lots of great riding.

Great Vidoe! I love my 2008 Suzuki S50 (black on black), even if the engine did blow (threw a rod) only 6 months after I bought it! Lol. Only 22,000 km too! Found an engine from a wrecker and will be back on the road soon! Planning a trip like this in the Summer....will make a video for sure! Ride Safe!

Wow!! I’m surprised by the engine failure. Any warning signs prior to the rod going? My bike sits for 6 months at a time over the winter and every spring when I fire it up I worry about the lack of lubrication. All the oil that was coating vital components is gone after sitting that long. I usually pull the plugs and squirt a bit of oil in the cylinders first but I’m not sure that really does anything except make me feel better. Glad you were able to find an engine though. Can’t wait to see another S50 video!

🤙 Great video, good editing. I love my S50. The small tank and the 5th gear are also cons for me. But the liquid cooling is awesome for living in a hot environment. I do have a windshield though. I recommend that for the stormy and windy conditions. Nice to get a break from the draft on long drives out on the freeway at high speeds. The color of your bike/helmet is cool.

Thanks for the comment! The S50’s are hot rods, I love mine. I’d buy another one in a minute. I was complaining about the small tank to a friend of mine and his remark was “Well they did name it the Boulevard not the Adventurer”. Which made me laugh. They are decent cross country bikes though! If I could weld worth a damn I’d build a custom tank. The windshield is a good idea, the wind beat me up pretty good. Especially the hail and rain! I think I’m going to order one off eBay along with some new Dunlop tires before spring hits. It got up to 13 degrees today so until about April or May riding a motorcycle is just a dream.

You did that ride without a throttle lock? must be easier with the flat bars. i have the buckhorn bars on a 750 intruder and I need some kind of cruise control.Pretty cool video! well done Xtman!

Nice video. Thanks. I bought a 2005 S50 last October and I'm loving it. The only real downsides I've seen with it (other than the ridiculous placement of the battery) are trying to find saddlebags that fit or a rack for the back (no sissy bar). Not much room on these things, so I'm curious as to what kind of bags you have and how you mounted them. It doesn't look like you had to relocate the turn signals. Are you using OEM saddlebag supports under your bags?

The bags I have came with the bike. It has some simple brackets that bolt on to keep them off the mufflers. They mount in about 15 minutes. I’ll look for a name on the bags and if there is one I’ll post a message here for you. I highly recommend them for longer trips. Easy to get into and get rain gear, tarp, basic tools etc... Really enjoyed the video as I just acquired a 2008 S50. I am on Vancouver Island in Canada and would like to know if you ever found the name of the saddlebags. There doesn't seem to be a lot of aftermarket accessories for an S50 - lots for the C and M version. Do you know the name of the engine guards? Agree 100% with your analysis of "why we ride". This is my first Suzuki but have had Hondas and Yamahas over the last 40 years.

So I found a tag on one that says “Diamond Plate Buffalo Leather”. Your right there are not a lot of accessories for the S50’s. I would like a bigger tank. Pulling over every 100 miles.

Thanks for watching! That battery question is a good one. I have never seen a battery fail like that. I’ve heard of it happening but never experienced myself. It was a 2 year old Walmart battery. Never had any sign it was getting weak or anything. Lights were bright, engine fired right up etc.. When I removed it I noticed that it was loose and knocking around a bit in the battery box. I don’t know if that contributed to it or not. Maybe it knocked something loose internally. I have the new one wedged in tight with some inner tube. The scary part is it could have happened way out in between towns where I would have been screwed big time.

@@Gaverny Yep no windshields! Just taking it in the face! It’s the best. I love my S50. 50HP and only weighs 440lbs. It’s always fun to ride. Carves up the mountain roads faster than many Harleys can. A bit under geared for long interstate rides but is right at home on the highways. Comfortable ride. Just did a 300 mile day last week. Took about 6 hours. I could have gone another hundred miles easily. You will really enjoy that machine. I checked my valve clearance at 8000 miles and they were perfect. I changed the coolant, (kind of a pain, it says to use a certain type of stop leak whenever it’s changed) the engine oil and filter and the rear drive gear oil. Cleaned the air filters (2 of them) and that’s about it. Pretty easy to service.

Love my s50 but yes that battery can be a real bitch! Bigger tank and move the battery under the seat and it would be just about the perfect motorcycle.

Mine has 13,000 miles and has never given me ANY problems. They are a great machine. A hot rod.

Well shit, I didn’t even try. It has a fuel pump that requires 12 volts so I didn’t think it would start. Unlike my gravity fed XR650…I can bump start that fairly easy.

I don’t know where it came from it was mounted when I bought the bike. I thought it was stock! If your on Facebook there’s a group called “S50 VS800 Riders” . There’s a guy on there called “Intruder Alert” from Canada, he’d know where to get those engine guards. There’s even a downloadable service manual there that I’ve used several times. Good group to join.

WHats the difference between S50 Boulevard and VS800 Intruder? Appears almost identical on the surface. Changing battery on those is such a pain in the ass. The most needlesly difficult service lol.

I don’t think there are any differences between the VS800 Intruder and the S50 Boulevard. They changed the name for marketing reasons I think. Personally I like the Intruder name better! The battery location definitely is the worst place I have ever seen a battery for sure. Have to lay on the ground, go to both sides of the bike to remove or install it etc.... Just this weekend I put on new tires and realized my front wheel bearings have slop in them! Went online and ordered some new ones. Off comes front the tire again.

That small tank is it’s only weakness. I’ve managed to do alright with it. 120 mile range tops. It’s a fun bike though, I call it my “Harley Hunter” because on the twisty Mtn. Roads I can easily catch the big Harleys and lose them in the curves. On the straight highway I don’t have a chance with the big Harley’s, they smoke me. But at only 440 lbs and 50HP it has some really good acceleration for a cruiser.

Question, what is the YELLOW switch on the left handle bar in front of the headlight switch?

It’s a “Passing switch”. I think it flashes the head light when wanting to pass. I’ve never used it! I just put my signal light on and twist the throttle. The S50 accelerates fast so passing is easy.

They were on when I bought it. They seem hard to come by. But I saw a post on Facebook the other day where they were selling some on EBay. From Britain though. About $238.00

@@clautamiralves712 Not really. At 8000 miles the valve clearances should be checked. Mine were perfect still. The coolant might need to be changed if it hasn’t been yet. The manual says to put stop leak in with the coolant so that’s what I did and no leaks! Mine also had the exhaust baffles removed which make the bike louder. I’m not too happy with it, I had to adjust my mixture screws on my carbs to stop the back fire on deceleration due to the better air flow. They are pretty durable bikes overall. No computers or sensors on board.
