I've owned 16 motorcycles in my life. My sv650 is the only one I regret getting rid of. Amazing bike. That low end torque, engine braking is perfect for back canyons. And for the commute to work. I got around 50 mpg doing 80 mph.

I've owned my SV650 since 2007, it's an '05... it's the only bike I have kept, and will keep for as long as I can. I've bought and sold half a dozen bikes in 15yrs of riding but the SV has stayed with me. The motor is amazing and the most likeable feature. The brakes and suspension only show their weakness when pushed like a supersport... but That's solvable with select upgrades. There's good reason why these are raced so often... besides being cheap. These are not beginner bikes, That's not the intention. A smart newbie can do it, though.

I know this is late, but could you elaborate more on why this is not a beginner bike? I'm a pure beginner, my first time going to riding a motorcycle. I am currently in the process of looking at "good" beginner bikes for the buck. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

@@khawmmung864 I've ridden atv's my whole life, so riding a motorcycle was a natural progression for me. I've got a 2006 sv650s with the large sportbike fairings, and this thing honestly surprised me with the power. I took it out for the first time and it has a very responsive throttle. It wants to GO. But the power is tame once you know how it responds to your inputs. I honestly get why Mr. Regular says what he does about the SV. In the hands of someone irresponsible or not cautious as a beginner, it will cause problems.

@@khawmmung864 I currently own a 2008 SV 650, but I started riding on an CBR600 like 10 years ago and stopped riding due to insurance issues. The SV torque is way different and can get you in trouble as a new rider if not careful. As soon as you get on it there's torque and it puuuuls all the way through and that's why people like them on the track. You will get used to it after a while like with any bike BUT depending on your comfort zone it can be scary at first. A 250cc bike has no torque on the low end so it's just easier to not make mistakes basically if you panic or hit the throttle too hard. It's hard to explain in words but if you have never ever had a bike or have done rider training it can get you in trouble. Also a 250 is much lighter so sudden stops are easier to handle if you loose the balance. Feel free to reach out with more questions

Wheelies not so good for this bike. The position of the oil pump supposedly will starve the engine and hurt the motor. I try stay with 2 wheels on the pavement. Yes sometimes the wheel gets up if I hop on the throttle but let off on the gas a little. I love this bike! No wanna hurt it. Am a long time rider most of the bikes I have had were choppers, bobbers and cruisers. It is a blast to ride for this senior citizen!

Raced a 600 hp Camaro, beat him . Raced a big turbo Honda that was 420-430hp , beat him while mis-shifting . none of those cars are beginner/first cars so why the hell would a sv650 be a beginner bike lol it was my first bike but I had already been riding all of my friends 600’s for half a year or so

Alright, I've never ridden a street purposed motorcycle, but I am considering getting into it. I'm quite a big boy @ 260lbs and I'm not looking for something quite as sporty as the sv650. I'm looking for cheap ( I completely understand that you get what you pay for), comfort, fuel efficiency, and reliability. I'm thinking some sort of cruiser would fit these conditions. If anybody could point me in some sort of direction, it'd be greatly appreciated! I also do a lot of 75mph highway driving, if that helps.

I’ve always been one of the guys that says learn on whatever you wanna learn on. Part of motorcycles that attracts me is the freedom, and people telling you to learn on this or that doesn’t embody freedom to me. With that said, this is a very good bike to learn on if you’re a bit apprehensive. I still own mine just because of how fun it is in all around riding. I think if you fall in love with the seating position of this but want something faster, then the cb1000 or the MT10 is the next logical step. This bike is a beginners bike, 250s are to slow, if someone is coming into your lane you can't get out of the way, 800-1000 are too powerful and heavy and if you lose control the weight of the bike makes it difficult to correct. 400-600s are middle bikes with enough power to get out of dangerous situations and light enough to move around.

My first bike bought in 2005. Had it for 16 years, then 2 years of sv1000, now a 1000 cc katana. I know I'm gonna buy another sv650 sooner or later, and i could write a book about why do it. ❤

I own one of these. Granted, it's restricted (EU laws, I'm not old enough to have a full license yet), but even with what, 48hp (something like that), this bike is super fun. It sounds great, it rides great, and it looks great too considering the design is from 2003. I love it so much that my dream bike right now is basically just an SV1000S. Also want to point out that you should never wheelie these. Due to an oversight in its design, the oil pump can't suck up the oil when wheeleing, leading to oil starvation.

I bought an 03’ SV650 naked in 05’ for $3.5k. Sold it in 10’ for $3k. I loved it, I wish I had kept it. Also, mine wouldn’t go above 136-137 MPH on flat land, tucked, no wind lol. Best bike I ever owned, it sounded great to my ears, it was smooth, tons of torque for a 650cc and didn’t kill my back after 45 minutes like all my friends who were on GSXR750s and R6s, they all wanted to ride it when they could.

Man I love these bible quotes. Here I'll show one too that I like: "For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me." why would you put heat protection wrap around the exhaust? i mean it looks pretty nice (thinking about doing it aswell) but actually you don't need it and all you get is rust, don't you? or do you like change the tape from time to time?

Thats odd, I've literally done dozens of hours of research from reddit, forums, YT, first hand riders and many sources of info from actual experienced riders. Unequivocally the SV650 is by far the most recommended beginner bike. Id say its on at least 80% of suggestions lists and more than half the time is considered THE best bike to get for beginners.

Really nice bike! I would have bought an SV650 if I wanted a naked bike... Instead, I bought a 2008 Suzuki GSX650F with 28k miles on it, in perfect condition. I'm now the second owner. I love the sound of the I-4 versus a twin... Just personal preference. Anyway, great review of an awesome bike 👍

Im kind of new to bikes, why does he say its not a 600 supersport? Whats the difference since its still a 600cc engine
@vali69
@vali69 Жыл бұрын
No this bike has a 650cc engine, not a 600cc one. 600cc superspots, well first of all they have fairings, and second of all they all have inline 4 engine that make around 120hp, this sv650 has a v twin engine making 70 something hp. And actually the 650cc is a class of it's own with the ninjas as well and the z650 and the mt07 and r7 all making around 70hp and being really beginner friendly. Well, there's also the cb650 and cbr650 but they have inline 4s and make 95hp. And the aprilia rs660 that's a parallel twin making 95hp, but these 2, aprilia and honda are exceptions.

I really want a gsxr, I know it’s the bike I want but the only ones I can find are 20k miles I know not horrible but missing ignition but vin on title and bike match in his name obviously got stolen but now I can’t ever get off the bike run in the store for 20 min or it might be gone but the 650sv has title keys 10k miles timing chain tune etc with all paperwork so the choice is obvious, both are same price but at this point I’m going with the 650sv unless a cbr 600 or gsxr pops up for 3500 with clean title and low mileage with keys
