If this were to disappear from the Suzuki method, that would turn Book 4 into simply a showcase of first and third movements of concertos!

You are exactly right! I think that's why they added it in the new edition. It also teaches important bow technique which Baroque music doesn't provide.

How do people dislike this video when the players are both VERY talented??? I love violin, my bff is playing this right now too!

I suspect that at least a few of these dislikes are from people who only saw the words "Perpetual Motion" and assumed it was the other Suzuki piece with the same name.

I’m not sure if my fingers or my eyes could keep up with them temp (I’m a slow reader in general so sometimes lose my place on faster passages…it might be due to having Amblyopia in my left eye so my right eye does most of the “seeing” when both eyes are open).

Wow fantastic! Im just on book 3 now, and cant wait to get to book 4 already, but it sounds like such a leap, much more so than from book 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 actually. Is the level of difficulty indeed much higher in book 4?

Right, just saw your vid about bridging the gap between 3 and 4 and indeed it is as i suspected ;)
@RedDesertViolin
@RedDesertViolin 2 жыл бұрын
It's funny that you asked that question....you are correct: Book 4 is a much higher level than Book 3, in my opinion. It can require a little extra prep to get ready for it. Biggest thing you could do is learn 3rd position, master shifting, learn some spiccato, and basic double stops. Maybe a couple of the Wohlfhart etudes would be a good idea. (opus 45). I have classes in all of those topics....or you can sign up for "Bridge the Gap". (www.RedDesertViolin.com) Good luck to you!

Hi I have been watching your videos and have enjoyed them. I take to heart everything that you say to do and not to do on the violin. Having said that I have been practicing a little over a year now and I still have one big major problem. I have a pretty good electric violin we paid $400 for it as a Christmas present to me last year and it has a really good sound I’ve put the best strings on it and I have bought a pretty decent bow to go along with it I’m using an expensive Rozen because I have been told that that makes a difference but I am still sliding all over the place with the bow. Of course you know what that sounds like it gives the strings a metal sound and a scraping sound in between the notes I’m trying to play I have an issue where if I keep my eyes right on the strings I do better but the minute I look up to read the music I start sliding all over the place am I a lost cause? I’m at the end of my rope. Can you offer me any specific advice? Thank you again and you’re playing is so beautiful.❤️🤗🙏💕I practice every single day without missing a beat I practice usually one or two hours a day. I take care of my disabled son so it is really hard for me to steal any more time away. But I really try to concentrate on this problem, but it seems to be getting away from me.

Hey, LwJ! This is such a common problem, and YOU CAN OVERCOME IT!!! Here are some ideas: Watch these videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXicY6Z6d62Uba8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5vQZoOdm9eLl5Y I think in one of those videos, I give an exercise where you find your perfectly straight bow looking in a mirror, then close your eyes, and with eyes closed, bring your bow back up and find the perfectly straight bow by muscle memory... But a MIRROR will be your best tool to correct this. Finally, you need to learn the concept of Good Bananas: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaXHqGtvgJprias Don't get frustrated. This issue gets everyone. You will solve it, I am sure of it! Especially if you use a mirror!

Hi ! Question: You know Suzuki book 4 and 5 have the Bach Double Movement ONE with suggested fingerings . I really like those fingerings and because they are there they are teaching me about how and when to use them . Is there a book that has the other Movements and also includes suggested fingerings. I went on FB Violin pages and I am not getting any suggestions . One person said: "why do you want other peoples fingerings " !!!!
@RedDesertViolin
@RedDesertViolin 4 жыл бұрын
Ugh. People get so freaking high and mighty! IT IS FINE to want other people's fingerings. That is how we learn! Eventually, you'll catch yoruself saying, "Hmmm. I wonder why they used 321 here, I like 432 better.".....and at that moment, you will know that you are starting to develop your own preferences based on your strengths, based on your exposure to methods such as Suzuki, and eventually, based on your musical tastes. to answer your question: I don't know of any books with Suzuki style bowings and fingerings for the 2nd and 3rd movement. It's a great idea! But I have the INTERNATIONAL edition, and I quite like the bowings in that edition. The fingerings....see, I didn't even notice the fingerings because I just instinctively did my own. I'll dig in and see what I think of the fingerings. I love your idea of an edition with common sense fingerings. I think I"ll do my own edition, with my own fingerings, and make it available to my viewers.

Especially love your episode on the three axes of violin holding. I have been playing on my own "restless" and I move the violin freely as I need to. People with good intentions tried to correct me, but though I respect them, I enjoy my way. You have freed me up so much by explaining the axes.
