Nice to see and hear that you are active in YT as well. I just recently found your work from the Memoir pages. I think your stuff resides more on that flowy ambient spectrum of techno which I like a lot. That encourages myself to push my compositions to even more longer spanning structures and for that ethereal feel. It is often disregarded subject that techno and ambient both share common roots in early minimalism. It sure does have those often mentioned roots in detroit and more specifically in that era's disco movement. That 4/4 kick and off-beat hats sure comes from there. Then again that is not defining characteristics of the techno as that is all over the electronic dance music. What I think is more in the core of techno is its ability to give that hypnotic far out experience. Big factor there are those repetitive hypnotic patterns, atmospheric pads and textrures. Also it is very interesting to hear that holistic sum of different rhytmical patterns interwoven together. Many times some pattern at first may feel out of place in the composition but when mixed properly and gradually introduced to the scene it will find its place. Listeners mind just needs some time to adjust to it. Once combined with other patterns it may lead to surprising rhytmical combinations. Another shared trait with early minimalism is the lack of melodies. Rhytmical sounds are rather shapes in that sonicscape which is set by the pads and textures. Melodies would grab too much attention from that hypnotic drive and also melodies tend to have start and end thus creating some narrative which then again takes away that abstraction techno and ambient tries to achieve. Although there is no melodies or chord structures many times such music is sonically very rich. Details lie in the nuances of the sound itself. Every repeating bleep and blop comes every time bit different and pads underneath are in constant movement. I think it would be good in modern day hectic life for anyone to at least try to stop rushing for a while and focus on such minute changes in sounds. It might give refreshing perspective to things and life in general. After all this carried away rambling I'll salute you and keep up the good work. Always a pleasure to listen some thought provoking tunes. 😎
