This decade has been the best period for metal in a long time.

@Di ego In terms of production i kind of agree, but i think now more then ever black metal is growing a lot of variety, for good and for bad
@YouDeserveToDie6665 жыл бұрын
@Di ego your point is completely invalid. Even though those bands anticipated many of the well known modern sounds, that doesn't mean we should throw every modern album in the bin. Also: it is simply false that nowdays production and riffing are "all the same". That's just bullshit, a proof that you don't know what you're talking about.

@Voidkom4 жыл бұрын
@Di ego Interesting how you name a few classics, but ignore the endless supply of bands from the 90s and 00s trying to copy those classics. The '10s decade is a lot more interesting at large, bands are not afraid to experiment again. The writing, recording and production is on point.
@PhoenixRising1662 жыл бұрын
@Diego Being the precursor in something in no way means you're necessarily better than the ones who will follow your steps. In terms of quality, black/death metal from the 10's is at least on par with the previous waves, but it is much more complex and has evolved and aged like wine. If you'd rather stick around with Celtic Frost/Bathory until the end of time, then that's your choice.

I saw them at Messe Des Morts a few days ago and man, they're so trance inducing that i felt my brain transport itself into another fucking dimension to the point i dissociated out of my own body and followed the empty shell around until everything turned into a black abyss around me with nothing but a faint yellow ring of light in the distance until i slowly gravitated back into my body and collected myself.

I loved the first song on this, and im loving the riffs, and general density and sheer power, but i've never been a fan of blast beats (2 songs in now) Even though they're pretty damn scarce on this (so far at least) Does anyone have any recommendations for similar stuff to this? Getting back into metal
@YouDeserveToDie6665 жыл бұрын

@morbidangel474 жыл бұрын
Svartidaudi's first album, Flesh Cathedral would be a good place to begin. Definitely less refined than this, although much heavier in my opinion. Start with that and listen on repeat until you enjoy it. Then move on to: - Sinmara - Hvisl Stjarnanna, Within the Weaves of Infinity - One of the Svartidaudi guitar players is a member - shares many of the same atmospheric elements. Probably the closest overall recommendation I could give. Hvisl Stjarnanna is a masterpiece. - Suffering Hour - In Passing Ascension, Dwell - Atmospheric black/death metal. Similar energy, semi-melodic passages, powerful. - Misthyrming - Algleymi, Songvar... - Another Icelandic act. Algleymi might be 2019 AoTY for me. - Zhrine - Unortheta - Iceland again. Much less chaotic than some of the other recommendations. Blackened-ish death metal. - Deathspell Omega - The Furnaces of Palingenesia - Most people either love or hate DsO. Another AoTY contender for 2019. - Mgla - Exercises in Futility, Age of Excuse - Polish black metal - fantastic songwriting, lyrics, and melodies. Less chaotic than Svartidaudi, more blast beats. If you enjoy Mgla you'll also most likely enjoy their other band, Kriegsmaschine. - Aosoth - An Arrow in Heart, The Inside Scriptures - Ultra-heavy French black metal. - Gaerea - Unsettling Whispers - Black metal from Portugal. Recommended for sheer ferocity. Well-written songs, good production. - Leviathan - Scar Sighted
