Recently I was loaned the SV105 electronic eyepiece camera for review. So in this video I'm going to show you the unboxing, and its use on two different telescopes for lunar photography, and review it at the end.
I wasn't paid for this review, Retevis - a seller of SVBony Products - loaned it to me so I could show you what it's like to use. I think this could be a good item for people getting into lunar photography and taking their first steps. It has an affordable price tag and a very low learning curve.
So join me in this video as we take several photos of the Moon with this nifty little camera.

Okay guys. I missed something that Slowhand John pointed out. You can change the exposure time to be even faster. You need to just manually write it in. With this new information to hand really, I am even more fond of this camera. I think the fact you can have even more control over your exposure just increases the usability of this camera and then you won't need to use the Moon filter at all. I missed it. I've been told about it. So I'm sorry this wasn't brought up in the video. I was thinking about pulling it down and re-uploading it but I'll just leave this pinned comment in place. It also turns out that you can use the SV105 as a guide camera also. Select it as a Webcam in PHD and it connects! I think I'll be trying this out when I can. I really think I might just buy this camera and keep it myself. Nice little unit. So again, sorry I missed things. But hopefully this comment can fill you in on that.

Hi I've tried the manual change to the exposure, say to 1ms but although it appears in the box where you input it doesn't change the exposure for the svbony 105. Infact the spec on the instructions sheet say 15ms is the minimum.

Setting the exposure time to the automatic mode might also help, as many cheap cameras allow shorter exposure times then. Additional hint: Green moon filters are meant for achromatic refractors, I would recommend neutral density filters for other telescopes.

Thanks Ruz, a nicely put together review as ever. It's a real shame the exposure doesn't go any shorter, it just makes things that little bit more difficult for folk starting out to get to grips with it. Hopefully this can be sorted out, and I would be very surprised if it couldn't as even my modded Logitech webcam is more flexible in terms of exposure times and frame rates! Another work around could be Barlowing I guess. I'd say it's a good buy at 45 if I didn't have a better camera for 15. Then again the SV105 is only one software tweak from being plug and play. Not bad, and your ED80 pic was lovely, thumbs up!

Nice concise review, do you think the SV105 could be adapted for use on a polar scope? I have a Skywatcher Star Adventurer equatorial tracking mount for my Sony A7S and a bunch of telephoto lenses, and at this time of year the celestial south pole is quite high in the sky here in New Zealand - my aging body doesn't appreciate kneeling down then craning my neck upward to look through the finder eyepiece, so to make the polar alignment process less painful my options are to get a 90 degree eyepiece, or to clip a camera such as the SV105 on the eyepiece and use the laptop to assist with the polar alignment. Do you think the SV105 could be used for that?

Yeah I can see this working. It's a very small camera so won't take up too much space either. As for the adaptor, all I can suggest is trying to find a standard extension. The Sv105 does have 1.25" filter threads in it so you could feasibly screw that onto the necessary extension and go from there

Hallo I have a question for you. I'm trying to shot lunar picture with a Reflex (Nikon D7000) but I face into the following problem: The quality and the details of the picture e are incredible but while I shot there is some really little movement of the camera (even if I use the mirror up setup) that compèromise the final shot. The image will be not still and even if I will try to merge 100 pictures the result will be not ok. Do you think that with this camera I can solve this problem? For sure the quality to the sensor is smaller than the reflex. I' use the Celestron SLT127 telescope. Thanks in advance Giorgio
@AstroFarsography
@AstroFarsography 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Giorgio it sounds like your issue is either too long a shutter speed on your Nikon or you're adding vibration in when taking a photo. I recommended using an exposure of about 1/500 shutter speed if you're not tracking the Moon, or to use a cable release (remote shutter) for the Nikon. However the SVBony would help if you have a laptop anyway, but you'd probably honestly get a better photo with the Nikon as it has a higher resolution sensor

Do you remove the entire eye-piece in order to attach the camera? And if so, how does the magnification happen with those lenses missing?
@AstroFarsography
@AstroFarsography 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there yes the entire eyepiece is removed. "magnification" happens by only showing the area that the sensor can see. It's called crop factor. You may have a 100mm instrument and can see 100mm with a big sensor. But since this has a sensor that's, for example, 50% smaller. It seems a smaller part of the sky. So a big sensor sees 100mm but the smaller sensor has a similar field of view that a 150mm Telescope would have. Hope that makes sense!
@michaelschnittker7388
@michaelschnittker7388 2 жыл бұрын
@@AstroFarsography This is "direct focus" astrophotography, the telescope is the camera lens, there is no eyepiece between the lens or mirror of the telescope and the sensor in the camera. The longer the focal length of the telescope, the bigger the image. The image on a 6" f/15 refractor with a 90" focal length, 2,250 mm, can be quite large, the full moon might be an inch across, possibly bigger than the chip. You can use an eyepiece between the objective and the camera to get an even bigger image but I do not know if this particular camera can be used that way.

USB connectors are current-limited. The dual USB A connectors are there to provide adequate DC power to the camera. I find the SV105 camera rather useful.

Hey Ruz! Why don’t you give this camera a try with some planetary targets? They should come great with your Mak.

Hey mate I had done actually with Venus. But the Mak was well out of collimation. I've since collimated it a bit more and now I was told where to make the exposures shorter I may just try it again one night. Gives a great FoV

Hi I have using one of these for a year now and as far as I can see the only drawback is the use of two usb connectors. I also use an asi 120 MC and the two are comparable. The biggest difference is that the svbony unit tends to be less prone to stopping that the ZWO unit. I have never had an exposure problem and I use it on a svbony F5.5 90 mm refractor and a 150 mm f8 skywatcher. I haven't used it as a guide scope but the pictures are generally good quality including Jupiter and Saturn. I did have a problem with dirty spots initially but was able to clean these. I hope this is helpful to everyone

John, I wonder if using a USB3.0 port would supply enough current to remove the need to have two USB ports in use? That's if the PC has a USB3.0 port available.

@@jaseastroboy9240 Hi Jase, my computer has USB 3.0 ports and it only works with the 2 connectors in separate ports. I also tried using a multi usb extension and couldn't get that to work either. It's all fine for planetary work but my computer is limited in ports so using it as a guide scope is impossible in my setup. Hope this helps

There are a lot of SvBony items also sold under different names for much higher price. I'm not going to mention brand names. I've seen literally identical equipment , only the branding (or no branding) and $40-$50 difference for the same exact product. People need to be cautious and look at the chip and sensor maker and its specs. Somehow SvBony can keep the pricetag lower and in generally many people get suspicious for no surprise when they look at what they might paid for similar item. Especially the rookie-astronomer segment is bloated with unknown names and widely varying prices for similar and even same items.

Why there are two USB ports ? only connect the main USB port, the SV105 could work. and the Sub-USB is for balance power. because some old version taplet doesn't suport enough power. so that people could use the Sub-usb to connect to a USB electricity power. then the SV105 could work normally. check our blog, search "Why SV105 Cable Has Two USB"
