It borders Wen County, Zhouqu County and Diebu County of Gansu Province to the east and north, and Zoige County, Pingwu County and Songpan County of Sichuan Province to the west and south, with a total area of 5,288 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Jiuzhaigou County has jurisdiction over 5 towns, 7 townships, and 2 functional areas. As of the end of 2022, Jiuzhaigou County has a registered population of 66,800.
The terrain of Jiuzhaigou County is high in the northwest and southwest and low in the southeast. It has a humid plateau climate. Jiuzhaigou Valley is home to Jiuzhaigou Valley, which has won three international titles: "World Natural Heritage", "World Biosphere Reserve" and "Green Globe 21", as well as the title of the first batch of national 5A-level scenic spots, as well as the provincial-level Bejiao Giant Panda Nature Reserve, Baihe Golden Monkey Nature Reserve, Gonggaoling Nature Reserve, Ganhaizi National Forest Park and Shenxianchi Scenic Area, Jiawu Tianchi, Heihe Scenic Area, Yuwa Shijie Red Leaves Scenic Area, Lama Stone Grand Canyon Scenery, Dujuan Mountain, Wujiao Baima Tibetan Customs Park and many other ecological and cultural resources. In 2007, it was named "China's Strong Tourism County".
In 2023, Jiuzhaigou County will achieve a regional gross product (GDP) of 3.710 billion yuan, an increase of 9.2% over the previous year based on comparable prices. The added value of the primary industry was 296 million yuan, an increase of 8.5%; the added value of the secondary industry was 503 million yuan, an increase of 0.7%; the added value of the tertiary industry was 2.911 billion yuan, an increase of 10.9%.

Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve is located in Zhangza Town, Jiuzhaigou County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, in the southern section of the Minshan Mountains in northwest Sichuan Province. It is located on the northeast side of Gonggan Ridge in the southern section of the Minshan Mountains. Its geographical coordinates are 103°46′ east longitude. 14″-104°5′3″, north latitude 32°54′13″-33°19′57″. More than 400 kilometers away from Chengdu, it is a large branch ditch at the source of Baishui River in the upper reaches of Jialing River in the Yangtze River system, with a total area of 65,074.7 hectares.
There are four scenic spots in Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve: Shuzheng Valley, Zechawa Valley, Rize Valley, and Zharugou. They are divided into many large and small scenic spots, including plateau calcified lakes, calcified waterfalls and Calcified beach currents and other water features are the main body. The water features are huge in scale, with many types and numbers, beautiful shapes, exquisite appearance and good environment. The forest coverage rate of Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve exceeds 80%, with 38 species of vines and 74 species of nationally protected rare plants. There are 122 species of terrestrial vertebrates, including 21 species of mammals, 93 species of birds, 4 species of reptiles, and 4 species of amphibians.
Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve is the core area and corridor of the giant panda A population in the Minshan Mountains. It has a typical natural ecosystem and is one of the cores of national biodiversity conservation. It is rich in animal and plant resources and has high ecological protection, scientific research and aesthetic tourism value. Jiuzhaigou Valley is a national geopark with geological heritage calcified lakes, beach flows, waterfall landscapes, karst water systems and forest ecosystems as its main protection objects. It has high scientific research value.
Jiuzhaigou Valley is a world natural heritage, a national key scenic spot, a national AAAAA tourist attraction, a national nature reserve, a national geological park, and a world biosphere reserve network. It is also China's first nature reserve with the main purpose of protecting natural scenery.
