Awesome Interview! Thanks for sharing that with us. It's always those "Old Sailors" that bring life to the art of sailing simply through their stories and sharing of their experiences. Hats-off to Capt Fatty and Caroline for their dedicated years of travelling the seas. And hats-off to the Delos crew for bringing these experiences to us! And I'm sure you guys are going to be a similar reference to other sailors in your days to come. You already have such a positive impact on so many of us. Keep up the amazing efforts. And thank you, again!

Wow Cliff. What an awesome thing to read. Thank you for your kind words. Meeting someone like Fatty was a huge thing for us. We loved just to sit with him, share a drink and exchange stories. And then we get to share it with you guys!! Thank you so much for your love and support. It means the world.

@seafodder61297 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I suspect Fatty could tell tales for hours and I would love to watch/listen. Given the amount of chemicals/alcohol he (apparently) ingested back in the day, he has an amazingly sharp memory. Thanks for sharing these chats, Delos!

How is this the top post on a vid where geriatrics were murdered?
@seafodder61297 жыл бұрын
Probably because a number of folks "just binge watched these" (ie all 6 episodes) and think Captain Fatty is a very knowledgeable sailor and an interesting storyteller, subject matter of the last video notwithstanding.
@dreadog64257 жыл бұрын
WOW, I couldn't stop watching, what a story. That's a hit movie in the making. To think that is just one of his stories from 50+ years sailing around the world. SV Delos you guys give me something to look forward to every week. Don't stop or change a thing.

The moment he started the story about the German, I made the connection to the couple who were ultimately killed in the Philippines. They executed him after about four months. This happened about when Delos was airing videos of going through the Philippines so it stuck with me. He sounds like a real character... so sad.

Yeah, there wasn't too great of a temporal gap between Delos being at the the supposedly safe yacht club near Davao and the attack to that exact same place either. That didn't have a great ending either..

what a great interview. I have just bought Captain Fatty's book for my partner who avoids computers but loves reading, so he can get a glimpse of this legend. We finally set sail for good in 3 years when youngest daughter goes to uni. All your videos keep me going while we build our vintage catamaran. We are most definitely not credit card sailors. Anyone can make it happen with heart and passion. We plan to sail the more remote or poorer areas of the world so would like him to hear about Jurgens story!

Capt Fatty is a great story teller. I've been watching Delos for years and bought my own boat a few years ago. A 78' Hughes like Wildcard. Unfortunately Jurgen didn't learn from this experience and sailed into part of Philippines where Abu Sayaf had an active presence. We find the world as it is, not the way we wish it to be. Sabine suffered the worst during their captivity and refused to give in to the same experience in the Philippines.

Boy Captain Fatty is a real page turner. What a fantastic interview. If anyone knows how to stop leaving the audience begging for more It's Captain Fatty. On the other hand it's the age old story of a young beautiful "good" girl falling in love with the "bad Boy" filled with the dickens and spontaneity. He had everything she didn't.... texture, and loads of character and adventure. Some times it's the Pollyannaish types that cling to the bad boys for as a rebuke to their conservative "toe the line" upbringing. Again opposites always seem to attract. What a great couple, and what a man of great experiences and fascinating exploits. Delos your fans can't thank you enough for bringing these wonderful episodes. To all the crew of Delos we send our love, best luck, and always fair winds.
@KarlKarsnark7 жыл бұрын
A sad, but fascinating story. I hope Brian took note and will be wise in plotting Delos's future journeys. They've already had one close call in Madagascar and far too many folks in far too many parts of the world see a ship like Delos as nothing but a potential source of income, or as a potential political statement. "There are old sailors and there are bold sailors, but there are no old bold sailors." -proverb

After finding out the sad end to this story I have all more respect for Jurgen and his wife.... What is the fate of Rockall? That boat if still afloat she needs to be memorialized, as a tribute to a couple with a legendary drive, a warning to sailors, and because after all Rockalls been through, she most defiantly has stories to tell.

Now THAT is one heck of a story. For someone who was born & raised in Africa, I know that the dangers that Jurgen & Sabine faced, were indeed terrifying. This story is insane. Probably the most insane. There’s another good hour long video I saw on KZbin of a guy recounting his boarding by pirates off of Somalia, unfortunately I can’t remember his name (British guy) or the boat’s, but they were actually able to contact an American naval ship that helped them.

A fascinating couple and great interviews. I assume that this was filmed before Jugen Kantner was beheaded by ISIS members in the Philippines. One wonders what he was thinking sailing in those waters, perhaps he did not know they were pirate-infested and sailors are advised to avoid the place. Perhaps he knew and did not care. I would have loved each video to be 25-30 minutes long because Capt. Fatty and his traveling companion have so much to share and talk about. I would love to hear more about lying ahull and other storm sailing tactics. Or perhaps more about his magazine article publishing, or even more about how they live. Anyway, what was there is quite good and thanks for sharing it.

Many sailors sail the Phillipines and Indonesia. The live piracy map icc-ccs.org/piracy-reporting-centre/live-piracy-map reveals the problem is further spread than some seem to think and includes more countries than the usual reported suspect. Even Corsica reported an attack. It's still all saver than getting lost during a visit to for example New Orleans. No one wonders what those US tourists visiting the Big Easy.
