In the first of his CV Stories, Sven-Göran Eriksson looks back at a managerial career which saw him start in his native Sweden before moving abroad and managing some of the world's biggest teams at the highest level.
At 26, he was encouraged to retire playing by Tord Grip and move into coaching. He did exactly that and in his fourth season with IFK Göteborg, he won a league and cup double.
His success didn't go unnoticed and Benfica appointed him in 1982. Eriksson continued to win as he won another double in his first season in Portugal.
Over the next five years, he would manage both Roma and Fiorentina in Italy before returning to Benfica and leading them to the 1990 European Cup final where they lost out to Milan - a team he describes as "one of the best in Europe at the time".
