And yes Sveta, even in South Africa your video's are regularly used to teach young gymnasts posture, focus and discipline. Especially that glorious '89 Fiesta in Stuttgart. You had a tremendous impact on the sport.

They called her the Bella Russian swan. She was such a gorgeous gymnast. She had such balletic beauty to her line, legs, feet, and all her movements. She was so somber when she was a gymnast. Americans would say what's wrong what's wrong, she always looks so sad. And I would be thinking: she is a great focused artist! Why does she have to smile and look happy!? She had something great! But also I thought: well, she is from Bella Russe. The Soviet Union has a terrible, oppressive regime. So maybe that's why she's serious and you would be too! But also, Russians didn't have enough food. They stood in line for hours just for bread. The common people couldnt get fruit and vegetables. The people were surveyed and had to watch everything they said. And Americans are asking why she looked sad! I am so glad to see Boginskaya as an older adult. Her English is so good and she has such a wonderful spirit and I am so glad she is happy! She has such positive energy. She was an asset to the American gymnasts when she started training with them when she was a gymnast and she is an asset now as a gymnastics teacher and coach. Yes, technically gymnastics is at a high level now. But a Boginskaya type gymnast is sorely missing in gymnastics today. The long legs, line, beautifully arched feet. And differentness in choreography. Boginskaya prolonged her gymnastics career and ended up competing against much younger gymnasts and was considered old at the time! But she always had her own unique offering and was admired and was thought of as being a great gymnast and one to emulate! What a beautiful and elegant gymnast she was. I'm so happy to see this video.

I do remember gymnasts of her generation wear shoes on BB. These latest generations, with the difficult moves, would benefit well from being barefoot for gripping the beam edges and staying on beam.

I think fig should set up the rule: the winner of AA has no fall on all events. That will be much fairer.

@D Leo Right.... It's not Simone's fault the rules are set up this way. Nor was it Vanessa Ferrari's fault the FIG adopted the open ended system.

gymnastics the same as figure skating, it rewards technical difficulty, that is the only way for these sports to progress, and they should remain that way. if all athletes just play it safe and strive for perfection without any mistakes and just go for the art then gymnastic and figure skating are no longer sports.
