We did these video's for our Coach Training Day! All coaches, including me, had to make their own video's of their recovery arm movements! Valuable exercise for coaches to 'see' their own delivery!
Recovery arm movements in vertical position. Under the influence of gravity; can help a swimmer feel and understand the movement pattern more clearly.
However vertical can be very confusing for some swimmers, and challenges the perception. It's just another way to help a swimmer understand recovery arm mechanics!
Swimmers very quickly feel 'incorrect' or contra-indicative movements for the ball and socket joint eg, taking the upper arm back, or behind the scapula plane, causes restriction, impingement and often pain!!!
Pull to streamline
Upper arm wide and away
Paint the line (passive lower arm)
Slot the arm in - find your streamline
When the arm finishes its pull in streamline, there is no flick, push passed the hip, hand slide - open the armpit and take the upper arm wide and forward.
