Good stuff - I think you're one of the few who's honest about your predictions... to actually go back and restate them, and then judge how you did. Most others just pretend they never said anything, and just plow ahead with more predictions. lol. Have a great 2025!

I agree mate I think Gen Alpha is the next generation in Collectibles, most have no interest in collecting anything physically- then there is the fact that they don't give af along with young Gen Z's for the latter^ I think comics that are household names will still hold strong & get stronger re nm98 ih181 Spidey in general. But not alot of other characters the rest will stay stagnant without constant movies/being incorporated into Gaming like fortnite.
@rayengstrom190521 күн бұрын
I'm curious how you define speculating? I've always defined it as trying to guess which characters will be introduced in future movies/shows before they're announced. An example would be buying Guy Gardner books years ago, before a trailer drops with him in it. Buying the book because the character appeared in a trailer or because an actor was announced to play that character in a future movie? I would define that as hype, not spec. But I'm always curious to hear how others define things in the hobby, because it's all subjective.

Very reflective and honest, I'm looking forward to your 2025 predictions. Personally great year for buying comics, there seems to be just more available. Community for sure, Enniskillen Comic Fest, Commando Comics Swap Meets, Lawless, TBC..., Thought Bubble, all very good. Even one of two the big "comic cons" here in the UK and Ireland were not totally rubbish. (We have nothing like C2E2, SDCC or Wondercon. They claim to be comic cons but words - no actions and spring shoes have no comic guests listed)

If AI starts infesting the market, I will stop buying moderns. I am not paying $5 for "art" that I can type into a prompt. I like the artwork and the skill it takes to make it. As in I can't do it. So makes 0 sense for me to pay for art that I can create. Big pass. It is not like the companies will pass the savings onto the customer.

I normally hate it when people comment say "we" as a broad statement on behalf of other people's! In comments sections. But I think we!! Can safely agree!! Fuk ai over real artist's.
@kyleroussel19 күн бұрын
Agree fully. That's why I think publishers are going to be as sneaky as they possibly can in implementing it. They won't be able to resist the savings, despite the inevitable backlash that would ensue. They'll do it anyway. Or, one publisher will do it, get caught, and the others will take notes on how to be even sneakier so they don't get caught. They'll never learn the right lesson (i.e. don't use AI).

Not bad Swag! Given that predictions are wide open and not a constrained set of variables you outperformed chance associations with a very low p-value. Now, all we gotta do is monetize your sorcery and we can go straight to the bank (or the moon)!

.500 is MORE than enough for the baseball HOF 😂 great predictions! I think we're starting to see the beginning of AI art acceptance, especially if it's transparent. The push back has been artists trying to sneak it past us or conceal if AI was used; if they're upfront and honest, it will be embraced faster. And I think we're starting to see that in the last couple months, so you might be able to weasel it up to .600 😅

Yeah that's a shame about pulps. For as much as comic collecting has become about covers, pulps have some truly incredible covers that check all the boxes. Plus, the paper quality was even worse than comics, so finding them in high grade can be difficult.

Remember in our panel in early 2023 where I told everyone they should be buying? 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ Unless we were heavily collecting in the mid to late 90s, we never would’ve expected this. It was a real lesson……for all of us.

Nice vid, Haus! TBH I am super excited fir AI comics. Imagine a run where you can put in parameters so every comic issue is a complete 3+ mini arc story. Where the larger more cohesive arc is 3, 4-issue yearly arcs or 6 ,4-issue bi weekly book arcs. Where you can get the AI to never ever retell the same recycled storylines. It would be amazing.

A lot of your predictions were logical going into 2024 and seemed to make sense if you kept an optimistic perspective. The only one that I strongly disagree with you is your thoughts on AI art and comics. Just look what happened to Francesco Mattina and his art being pulled from DC earlier this year. Would encourage you to interview artists and get their thoughts on this manner. In keeping in mind that your interview dealers, reach out to Shawn H from Comics Elite and hear his perspective.

The live auctions limits the available books that a person might be searching for to complete their collection. Those auctions create excitement but choice is rarely there. Hard to see how that makes sense when there are so many online options. Spec opportunities are on the rise. Think you got that one right. CGC lost credibility, at least with me, when they said they would allow for more 9.9s. I’m down to about 500 slabs and don’t intend to add more from that company. Will never understand how a grade was lowered to 9.8 if they didn’t have flaws to justify the drop. Their argument that it takes more time to find the lack of flaws in a 9.9 was something they might remedy. What ??? Pure nonsense at its finest. Looking forward to try g PSA grading but not holding my breath after CGC fell apart this year. Really killed the value of a lot of those books. Even to the point that some raws were nearly as valuable online. Love your show, even when I disagree with some of your opinions. The fact that you’re a comic guy is readily apparent. Good luck and Happy New Year 😊

Here's my prediction: Collectors will grow old and die. The collecting community will dwindle. Values will drop as comics become a relic of past, along with typewriters, cable TV, records and the fax machine. Folks who chose not to see the evidence will be left holding the bag as the bulk of buyers are forced to exit one way or another, and comics become more niche.
@pingadol155521 күн бұрын
The things you mentioned went to the side because of technological advances. You are comparing apples to oranges.
@goldeneastgun21 күн бұрын
@@pingadol1555 Print is also a technology that is in decline but I get your point. Still, you don't have to be an anthropologist to understand that people don't wear their parents clothes, listen to their parents music or play their parents board game... not in any meaningful way. The world is changing but "fashion" and "tastes" suggests a cyclical nature as if comics had a chance of a come back. While stories and art will never disappear, we are essentially talking about a format that has outlived its purpose, and as such... is in the process of becoming an old world artifact.
@pingadol155521 күн бұрын
@@goldeneastgun I just don't agree. The sting from the comic boom did not fade yet. People still have a bitter taste. When that finally subsides that's when I feel a slow progressive growth will occur. The way it should have been from the get go. Collecting comics is part disease. It does have a gambling ,hoarding aspect to it. So therefore new collectors are born everyday.😀
@brychology21 күн бұрын
@goldeneastgun As a Gen X’er I am now collecting comics that pre date my childhood and loving it. I believe people who grew up with the stuff from the 90’s will eventually start going back as well and the same with those who have collected more modern comics. Comics are so much more than a tool, like the technologies you mentioned that have become obsolete, they are art, stories and can have the rarity factor that propels collectibles!
@goldeneastgun21 күн бұрын
@@pingadol1555 I think we can agree that people do die. I think we can also agree that certain things become obsolete and outdated. But if you feel that comics are different, and will be spared the fate of vinyl records, coins and stamps, board games or beanie babies... we'll just have to wait and see.

How anyone could be okay with paying for AI art is beyond my comprehension. Imagine going to a comic convention and meeting the guy who writes the AI promps for Batman. Art is art because of the human element. AI should be doing the mundane so that we (humanity) can create beautiful things. AI can’t create art anyways. AI steals and plagiarizes. In a world of AI we would never have Daniel Warren Johnson or Jeff Lemire.
