hehehe 😀 how old are you? In Kenya back in the 70s 80s 90s etc. speaking one's language was considered ushamba (uncool/unstylish or backwards). Some people even avoided speaking Swahili because those who spoke it were considered to be backwards. Most kids (not all) of that era followed those foolish beliefs and today they are grown adults who cannot even speak Swahili let alone their native language. I'm so glad we spoke our own language at home (Luhya). Our parents instilled in us the importance of self love- ie loving everything about your origins. I was also very good at learning words from other languages so I learnt Kikuyu, Kamba and Luo from nighbourhood kids, classmates, street vendors, coworkers. etc. Swahili is very easy to learn. Just watch the news in Swahili. So many young people in Kenya shunned their native languages in favour of foreign languages. Those foreign languages are useless today.
