this is the first time i’ve seen the Disco 4, or any independent suspension vehicle drive like an old solid axle Disco 2 over rough rocky ground like this
@sienaoverland
@sienaoverland 5 жыл бұрын
Ryan Ryan it most closely mimics solid axle in Rock Crawl mode when the valving is set to counterbalance across an axle.

The nissan patrol also uses independent suspensions all around its the HBMC system
@sienaoverland
@sienaoverland 5 жыл бұрын
The Nissan HBMC system is similar but is more for body roll control, being an added system to the shock dampers. The LR system is air control valves linking the air springs that give better articulation performance of the springs when in the relevant mode, ie pushing the actual spring down when it’s opposite is up. They also have something hydraulic as part of the shock damping but it’s only available on some Range Rovers.

With those steelies She looks meaner. Imagine if this marvel came not only with the terrain response, but with front/rear lockers!!!!! Oh my God.....
@sienaoverland

The factory rear e-diff certainly can improve things in some situations but the vast majority of the time traction control alone is pretty amazing.

@@sienaoverland I can see that She is astonishing in every situation. But I think that selectable lockers, perhaps, do not put strain on the brakes. Anyway She is a pleasure to watch climbing basically every obstacle you have in front of you. What an amazing machine!

Nice video. Good to see the LRs doing what they were designed to do. Thanks for sharing. I was curious, I see no one with a front winch, do you find a need for it?
@sienaoverland
@sienaoverland 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks & good question. My view is we pushed over the limit of what should be driven without a winch on this trip. Not that the vehicle capability is the issue but that small errors which need winch recovery are easy circumstances to encounter when driving this type of track. Check out the recovery video, uploading now.

Scott H Scott I have decided to go with a 12K lbs winch mounted on an ARB bumper thanks to you. haha 😂. All the best from Colorado. Thank you.

Shays cool. I would love to travel around Colorado and Utah in my Discovery. My current thinking is 12k winch and discreet mount behind bumber.

Well I now also have a petrol V8 2005 Discovery 3 or LR3 as you'd know it and really like the 4.4L engine. Wish both of mine had the rear locker.

Awesome video. Interesting that you guys are not runny any bull bars. Thought that was almost mandatory if you’re in the back country in Australia?
@sienaoverland
@sienaoverland 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much and good question. Many people do consider bull bars virtually mandatory. I take a different view in that we avoid driving at times of greatest risk. Yes it could happen at any time but I consider it a low enough risk to not fit a bar.

hi, nice video! who is the D4 that have the rear diff locker ? what about the tires pressure?
@sienaoverland
@sienaoverland 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. He can be seen at 1:30 but does not feature much in this video, just the way things went on the day. Not too much terrain for which the rear e-diff would have made much difference, although the section at 3:10 and 6:20 would have been an interesting comparison. Tyre pressure was around 20-24psi.

the D4 really needs a speed control to make it idle faster, when you touch the pedal it shoots off and control is difficult, at least it is on my d4 2.7 by the way, if anyone has a sticking turbo actuator, it is an easy fix on the 2.7. all you do is take off one heat shield, remove screws fro the others but push the others to one side, I welded to welding rods together, put a hook in one end then, in the small gap you can see the actuator arm, hook it , pull the arm, bingo fixed

👍 Lr4. Very capable car I have been testing limits with mine also. I am unfortunately replacing the transfer box . that clunky noise sounds very similar. P.S great colour. If you get a chance check out YT. outdoorsCBR

There's clunking at 1:33 in my mate's D4. He does have worn out LCA bushes so it could be that. We didn;t hear any other strange drive train noises during the weekend but yes transfer case could be an issue.

Thanks for the video, I just purchased an LR4 and want to use these wheels by TuffAnt, what Tires and size do you have on your wheels? Also are you running a lift kit or lift rods? Lastly what is the hitch receiver that you have? Thanks in advance!
@sienaoverland
@sienaoverland 5 жыл бұрын
Details for everyone's tyres and wheels in the Description (mine is the Monsta 265/60). We all run the Llams kit rather than rods; more flexible control over height in any given situation. The hitch receiver is by Mitchell Brothers in Sydney

Is LR4 more or less capable than Prado? Does LR4 have locking diffs?
@sienaoverland
@sienaoverland 5 жыл бұрын
One of the vehicles in this video has a locking rear diff but most don't. I think the Disco/LR4 is more capable direct from the factory but when you start allowing for mods it all depends on set-up.

Not raised chassis. All vehicles have standard Land Rover air suspension that can lift suspension height.

Any issues with those Tuffant wheels? I’ve tried a few aftermarket brands and they can never get them properly balanced.
@sienaoverland
@sienaoverland 5 жыл бұрын
HeliRy the only issues I’ve seen with balancing relates to tyres where some are better made than others. But no balancing issues with the Tuffant wheels. I know of at least 4 different tyres that have balanced fine on them.

Hey good video. But how do you get the head lights to flicker like that?
@bcatz454
@bcatz454 5 жыл бұрын
LEDs lights flicker like that on camera.
@sienaoverland
@sienaoverland 5 жыл бұрын
yes it's picked up by the camera but not the eye. LEDs are pulsed to achieve a particular light open. It just depends on the angle of the lens and recording frame rate.
