Inspired by Western classical ballet, the acrobatic ballet Swan Lake incorporates the dexterity of Chinese acrobatic arts with the elegance of Western ballet. Romance and adventure complement each other, and two different cultures shine through the simple yet timeless lesson which is the good always triumphs the evil. This play portrays the truth, generosity, and beauty that are pursued across the world.
The play tells an engaging story. A princess in the Orient was cursed into a white swan by the Back Hawk King. Thousands of miles away, a Prince crossed the oceans and came to Chang’an in the Orient. He rescued the princess from the curse and defeated the Back Hawk King. Eventually, the prince and princess lived by Swan Lake together. The play fully represents the individual beauty of Chinese acrobatics and Western ballet as well as their combined spectacle with the purpose of promoting cultural exchange between China and the West.
