The celebrity dub was better, especially with Odile. She talked more like a daddy's girl in the other one while in the celebrity dub she talked more like a Shego from Kim Possible type character.

I honestly wonder what would've happened if the Samuel Goldwyn Company's dub of the film did see a home video release in the 80s. Would it still be released by Media Home Entertainment/Hi-Tops or some other company, and would MGM have gotten the rights to the film when they bought Samuel Goldwyn and Orion in 1997. I guess the latter is a definative maybe considering they still hold the rights to Alakazam the Great despite never giving it a DVD release

Hard to say. Incidentally, I do give this movie an in-depth cover for a virtual panel I recently did: Tchaikovsky in Anime. It's here on my FB page.

Got the DVD recently and I can see what you are talking about. Some of the music repeats terribly like how a vinyl record repeats the track over and over again, and in between the music and dialogue, a brief silence that will make your heart skip a beat. I think Discotek did a rush job on that while the original Japanese version and Frontier dub remained untouched. I think they should fix that problem when they re-release it on either DVD or on Blu-Ray. This is one classic anime, especially one English dub, that deserves to be cleansed of all the audio problems. Believe me, I know. 😉

Yeah, I was pretty annoyed about that. I would rather hear the dub in better sound quality. The Frontier dub I can't stand.

@@Turnajon Agreed. The audio track can't be terrible forever. It is just a matter of time before someone in Discotek realize that mistake and correct the sound problems. It's just too bad the other version of the Golden Sync dub (the one with the different opening credits and ending which says "THE END - A Samuel Goldwyn Production) isn't around the internet aside from KZbin (but some of the clips were blocked due to Toei's crackdown against those who uses Fair Use for the videos we post). Bummer.

Another one of my favorites. An underrated epic, and to me that was the best representation of the original Ballet show in any media.
