long story short, Odette was under a spell that could only be broken by a Vow of Everlasting Love said by her true love, Derrek. However, if Derrek made his vow to another woman, the spell would kill Odette. The bad guy, von Rothbart, basically tricked Derrek into making his vow to another woman, hoping to kill Odette.

Derek literally was suddenly interested in Odete (sorry if i spelled her name wrong) when she suddenly went to gorgeous, but i cant blame Derek for this when Odete did the same thing. I now suddenly have a feeling they learn to love each for who they than how they look but maybe not for Derek, as in the other movie where Odete was kidnapped as a swan and someone else posing as her, Derek didnt even see her weirdly, Derek saw her like the Odete he knows since childhood. Didnt even suspect how weird and happy she is suddenly.
