It's not his arms... *It's his mustache!* If you look at a lot of the text in sm64ds, it's abundantly clear that: mustache = power. It's why yoshi is the only one who can't break blocks, dive, pick things up, etc. (This is where in game canon stops and speculation begins) This is probably why Mario is always able to defeat bowser, (one of the few powerful entities to not have a stache) And while not DIRECTLY confirmed, it's heavily implied that hats are also a source of power, i.e. M,L,&W taking more damage without there caps, the winged cap being marios staple power up in that game, in the original sm64 all the other power ups were also caps. Going beyond 64, similar negative effects occur in sunshine, and in odyssey, there's an intire race of hats that have the power to "capture" enemies, AND what are the two most distinct features from Mario that stay on captured enemies? *his hat... and his stache!* Anyway... where was I? Ah yes. Big bob-omb has a crown, as do all the other major bosses in 64ds. COINCIDENCE?! Yeah probably, this is just a Mario game.

Wait, Mario's captured enemies retain a hat and stache? Hm... Now that I think about it, that moustache looks an awful lot like Luigi's only white. What if Luigi got his own cap spirit that manifested itself as a crown and he captured a bob-omb? But of course a white moustache would mean that he's very old, and therefore likely from another timeline or something. Also maybe King Bob-omb has arms and legs because he's become merged somewhat with Luigi after he couldn't undo the capture for some reason.

Move aside fellas, resident bob-omb lore expert here. (Yes i know thats a very specific title, and yes my parents are disappointed in me.) I've combed the mario wiki with a fine toothed comb and i've learned all you can about bob-ombs in my years. This theory is quite interesting but it dosnt hold a candle to what happens AFTER the events of Mario 64. Strap in fellas we're going for a ride. After King Bob-Omb was defeated he left Bob-Omb Battlefield and his role as king there, allowing the Bob-Omb Buddies to continue their thing well into the events on Whomp's Fortress in Mario Galaxy 2. Between then however, King Bob-Omb moved into the city and became a fucking MAFIA BOSS. (Super Mario Party Advance i believe) I'm not joking. He's the leader of the creatively named Bob-Omb Mafia and "protects' Toad City from outsude 'threats" when you defeat him he disappears completley. The simple Bob-Omb who took his place tells you he moved to the mother fucking JUNGLE to do some soul searching. Who knows maybe in a future DK game King Bob-Omb could be the main villian? In anycase, great video but i'd much prefer to hear you talk about the acid trip that's King Bob-Omb's downward spiral after he was dethroned. this isnt just me spouting random shite btw, look on the wiki this all actually happened XD

Two points about bob-ombs you missed. In the Mario and Luigi games, bob-ombs are able to regenerate themselves after detonation. This was seen before if you left an area and returned, but is better showcased in the minion quest series, where after detonation they return beaten and bandaged. Point two, in MP8, we see two Big Bob-ombs at the same time.

Thanks to Paper Mario, I've always had the head canon that Bob-ombs can detonate themselves and regenerate. Depending on how heavy they explode themselves, they might be knocked out for longer than normal (like the self-destructing enemies you fight) or they can hop right back up with something comparable to a bit of dizziness (like Bombette and Adm. Bobbery.) As for why the Bob-omb King has arms....I just figured it came with his increased size ^-^

I always saw the first level of Super Mario 64 as a resistance. Friendly inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom (the Bob-omb Buddies) were trapped in the paintings leading to Bowser's worlds like the rest of the friendly characters. The Bob-omb Buddies though were trying to fight for their freedom but they couldn't win against Bowser's forces even if the enemies in the battlefield were among the weakest enemies in the game due to their lack of combat expertise. Big Bob-omb himself apparently working for Wart in the past is not a completely outlandish concept. What's not to say he was one of the countless Bob-ombs that served Wart and when Wart was defeated he wanted to be something more so he left his dimension and struck a deal with Bowser for more power. Bowser turned him into a king to act as a general to his forces using the power of the stars. The Power Stars where King Bob-omb's source of power which is why he refuses to part with his as it would weaken his forces and cause a turning point in the tides against Bowser. When you think about it all of Bowser's minions in Super Mario 64 were kings or generals. Larger versions of already existing enemies. King Bob-omb, the Whomp King, Goomboss, Big Boo, King Boo, Big Mr. I, Big Bully, Chief Chilly, Chill Bully, Big Fire Piranha Plants. The only bosses that weren't enhanced versions of other enemies were Eyerok and Wiggler. The later has questionable loyalty because it is implied Bowser's magic was imbued in his Power Star which made him bad and when he was defeated he was freed from Bowser's control rather then exploding in a cloud of smoke like other bosses. What's odd is that if you are tackling all the bosses and mini-bosses in order the Wiggler is the penultimate boss of the game. A boss not loyal to Bowser on his own free will but rather corrupted by him due to being taken advantage of by his love for shiny things.

My personal belief is that EVERY enemy has ability to regenerate, fueled by extra lives - that's why when you replay a stage, old enemies you might've killed are still there. I think that's crucial for explaining why Mario universe treats death so lightly, as the idea that death isn't pernament fits the tone, and is supported by the gameplay. As for the ghosts and undead, imagine those happen when you die, but lack lives to continue. And we know undead can be truly resurrected using magic, as we saw with Dry Bowser.

I forget; can Bob-omb Buddies canonically explode? Wait, yeah, okay, yeah, Bob-omb Buddies don't explode. There are red and magenta Bob-ombs that explode, but they're never referred to as Bob-omb Buddies-- only as Red Bob-ombs. Bombette can explode (repeatedly). Therefore, I would say Bombette is a unique Bob-omb who is your buddy and not a unique "Bob-omb Buddy."

I also just noticed in most games bob ombs that are exploding or near exploding turn red, so maybe the bob omb buddies are defective bob ombs. With King Bob Omb being seen as a god, it could be that the bob omb buddies are bob ombs made by king bob omb that were seemingly betrayed by their god: deemed to never explode by accident or not. Perhaps, his first attempts at actually forming real bombs. As such, seeing the more highly successful versions he started making, the bob omb buddies decided to band together to fight against the seeming lies and treachery of this king as a God, and the other bob ombs that were successful are simply too new or too blind to see their points, and perhaps even see them as different beings. As such the war started, but as we know, king bob omb only goes on to become more and more successful at making bombs since bob ombs appear more frequently in newer games, consistantly. Heres what i think the timeline is: A dream land bob omb finds his way into the real mario world. Realizes he has super powers essentially and so starts experimenting with these powers Starts trying to create similar beings to him, but failing resulting in the bob omb buddies. He keeps trying and ends up creating the normal standard bob ombs. The normal bob ombs make King bob omb their God and King The bob omb buddies band together and start the bob omb civil war. Bowser gives King Bob Omb a powerstar to let him make more powerful versions to thwart mario. King Bob Omb uses the powerstar to make chuckyas but before he can make too many of them Mario snatches the star away. The chuck yas escape the war effort fleeing to whatever safe haven they can find, while the bob omb buddies slowly die off. King Bob Omb continues to make more and more bob ombs slowly getting better and better and better Later on King Bob Omb uses his powers to transform into that boss from super mario rpg, which conventiently has the power to make bob ombs. Mario or some version of mario finally defeats him for good as his magic power is banished back to the land of dreams. Bowser needs to replicate already complete bob ombs now that king bob omb is gone, leading to the bob omb spawners we see in the most recent games.

Bombs in Paper Mario 64 have arms. You don’t see it until the parade at the end of the game. They explode the Koopa bros off of the parade float and then spin and give a thumbs up. You would not believe how surprised I was to see this after we playing the game for the 22th time.
