Now the past is untrue, and this breath is a lie And the sun is an emptiness that burns through the sky And this ground - it will slide down, down into the sea And when this body dies, no man will ever breathe one word of ignorance for me So bury your trust beneath the ground with me And lay your loneliness down for the sun to consume Now the earth bleeds cold water in my open hands But their bodies bleed poison and they swallow the sand And we'll walk to the river, where we will die of a thirst And my fate, it's no question Every fool, he is broken beneath the same holy curse So bury your trust beneath the ground with me And lay your loneliness down for the sun to burn to sand

Pessimism is always a positive thing to write about, it helps you to release the stress from the rumination.

Michael Gira songwriting is very similar to my style. Im sure that Michael studies Philosophy and is influenced by Shopenhauer and Zapffe.

Jarboe's version is a garden, and Michael's is a swamp.

Whereas the original sounds open, intimate and warm, you've compressed it with this version to an unpleasant pumping sound and added reverb to distance the vocals. What were you thinking?

Jarboe always sang the ballads

There's a heavy tone of solipsism in swans words , am i wrong? I'm only trying to crack the meaning and way of thinking of all their work. If you know or can understand the feeling of this please inform me. Sorry for the lack of better words but I'm deeply interested

The voice you hear is another voice from song to song, but there is a red thread going through then all - a commonality, perhabs it reminds you of something, you just have to repeat it...

The words are great precisely because theyre evocative instead of figurative, even Gira himself prob couldnt tell you the meaning word for word of every line of each of his songs, but they do follow one (or multiple) thematic lines. Some are more focused than others. The other guy I think is giving good advice on how 'you just have to repeat it', the intended meaning can only be uncovered ( and only internally ) after being invoked multiple times. Personally the theme I see in this particular song is that of the loss of individuality and the futility of human individual experience at the end of time, which is the same theme explored in a more focused manner in the song 'When Does a Body End?' from The Great Annihilator.

While I do like that the guitars are more prominent in this version, the original is just far superior. Same thing with Will We Survive and When She Breathes on the reissue. Vastly inferior versions. The extended version of Why Are We Alive is an improvement on an already masterful song, however. And the addition of Blind is obviously welcome. But they aren’t worth ruining the perfect track listing of the original with three crappy replacements. The originals were masterpieces on a masterpiece of an album. Hopefully another reissue will be coming one day to rectify this grievous error.

Was this remastered? It sounds compressed/brickwalled and trebley.
