Majority of BTC traded daily are mined from the past cycle. They were mined and have mostly gone from trader to trader. It takes 2-4 years for those BTC's to get absorbed by HODLers. That is why you have the 4 year price cycle. Once havling kicks in, it'll take a year or so for the markets to realize the supply constraints - along with increased demand from ETF's (which most ETF's have not even marketed them to retail retirement and pension funds) this will likely cause a supercycle. 2025 there will be VERY little bitcoins being traded.

The purchase of the ETF does not effect price on transaction, but once the market closes, the hedge funds MUST buy that Bitcoin from exchanges. 12 years is a long time to wait to make up for cashing out of GBTC and taking the tax hit. There are too many unknowables. For instance, GBTC may eventually lower their rates to be competitive and attract new money, after milking people for a while. Since all my GBTC was in IRAs, thankfully I was able to make the change after moving my account from Vanguard (I hate you, Vanguard).

I am trying to look at this objectively/skeptically. Personally I think he's right. What most of us think of as reasonable is about to go out the window. Very good discussion gentlemen. I think we have to look at this in terms of market cap, and then calculate backwards. They are at a trillion market cap. That is the market cap of A Single mag 7 For example. Could we reach 14 trillion to match that of gold? If so, that’s $700k, could 14 Trillion really be pumped into bitcoin in a 1 year period, or months as noted, that seems a bit nuts.

No one in their right mind will pay $1M for a single bitcoin in 2024. There are factors that should drive the price higher but not to that extent. I'd be surprised if it gets to $100K, which is more than double what it is now. I'm pretty sure the BTC ETF will allow investors to get their feet wet into crypto, but it's not the same thing. Need to own the real thing as a base layer, then speculate in alts after some heavy duty research-- where the real money is made.

Supply crunch has been touted for years, but until an exchange actually runs out, i.e., they can't fill a buy order, running low won't actually have an effect on price, other than psychologically. As long as there's enough BTC on the books to meet the orders, why would being just low on supply matter? If I go to the store to buy milk and there's one gallon left, but no one else around that also wants milk, I buy the milk for what the store has it listed at. If there's someone else that also wants the milk, then we have a potential supply crunch that could result in us "fighting" over the milk. We bid the milk up until one of us relents and maybe the one who does asks the clerk to go out and find more for that higher price. If, later on, someone else comes in looking for milk and now there is none, maybe that person starts to ask the store clerk to go find some and the clerk tells them what the previous people paid and that that's the new price. If they know that there is no milk available elsewhere, then maybe they agree to the new higher price, or maybe the say no and leave empty handed. But the point remains, as long as there is enough milk on the shelf, and on the shelves at other stores, the price stays stable (from a supply perspective, obviously other things affect price), even if there is a low, though sufficient, supply for the foreseeable future. So far, there is and always has been enough supply, even when it runs low sometimes. Not saying we won't have a crunch, we likely will eventually, but I think we'll need the supply on exchanges to get ridiculously low, like scary low before it actually affects price (again, other then the psychological effect). So then the question becomes, are we going to really see that kind of low supply? Sure, the ETFs are buying more than is mined, but its already slowing, and will continue to, (though I suspect we'll see a jump up starting at the 30 day point because of the "30 day rule" and the GBTC sellers buying back in to the others) and let's be realistic, the exchanges have an assload of supply still available. And despite the current LTH ratio, we know there will be a lot of profit taking at 50k, 60k, 69/70k, 100k, etc. Don't get me wrong, I agree supply is going to get tight, a crunch will eventually happen, and number go up will continue, and even accelerate, but I think Samson is TOO optimistic, to the point that it could hurt sentiment when it doesn't happen quite that fast or dramatically.

​@@julesgosnell9791 You're talking more about simple supply/demand dynamics of the system. I'm talking about the actual "supply crunch" itself. Even if new supply was going to zero instead of 450, as long as exchanges have adequate supply to fulfil orders, there is no supply crunch (in your example they had a supply yesterday and new supply today, even though its from a new, higher priced batch). Maybe I'm an outlier, but I look at a supply crunch as being a much more extreme dynamic then just typical supply/demand. Like, for it to be a supply crunch, there has to be instances of people literally not being able to buy the quantity of the item that they want, to the point they have to go searching and offering a lot higher price to procure said item/quantity, and still coming up empty handed (at least at first). As things are going with the ETFs, the halving, FOMO (which data looks like that hasn't even started yet), etc., we could see an actual (my definition) supply crunch this coming year or so. The only reason I hope not yet is so I can stack more cheap sats before sats and cheap are no longer spoken in the same sentence. Hell, I'm anxious to see what happens when Blackrock has millions in orders and there's not enough Bitcoin for them to buy that day. If the price that morning is, let's say, $69,000, and they have $500m in net sales that day, but there's only 1000 BTC available to buy, do they buy the 1000 BTC for $500m and make the price $500,000 that evening? Do they just not buy and take a penalty of some kind? It's going to be an interesting year.

Mow's 1M Bitcoin theory is intriguing based on these new BTC spot ETFs and the halving effect in April but I don't think that will happen in 2024 because like the stock market and the crypto markets even after the BTC halving there are too many variables to consider in these markets like when will the Feds start reducing interest rates, stabilizing war peace, and in terms of the crypto markets, because there are far better use cases to adopt vs Bitcoin's store of value. I believe the world is still sleeping on crypto technologies such as Quant, Hedera, and the Global bridge currency financial giant Ripple XRP. Because Bitcoin is still considered to the be the store of value, I think in spite of these sleeping giants I just mention, based on retail and institutional investors adopting BTC ETF's right now it can still reach 1M. But it might only happen in late 2025 not 2024.

What happened to market cap calc vs supply....a doubling of its market cap, which is not impossible, is $139k... When it does hit the same market cap of Gold and lets say we do this by 2034, each BTC = $52m Why 2034? We will have reached 99% of supply, and the remaining 1% will take approx 140yrs to mine. ETFs seem more like a short-term thing considering the whole point of BTC is decentralization, not corporations to continue to control our economy. People will need a wallet of sorts for this to fully work - we need away from corporations, banks, and government control.

A 20x move in weeks, even by end of 2025, would require more money printing than we've ever seen in our lifetime. A supply shock and hash rate increase isn't enough to go to a million per BTC.
