+1 on the Harber Freight transmission jack. After fighting with my 03 Wrangler's transmission I got the HF Jack and it made it so much easier. Of course now it just sits in the garage. I'm using it to hold a winch that I'll find a use for some day.

Thank you. Someday I'll do it again, do it right, and explain the many differences. I have swapped many engines but this was my first transmission without pulling the engine/trans pair.

I wanted to add footage showing better methods and tools when I put it back in, but I'm a hack and put it back pretty much the same way it fell out. Fortunately the comments here answer the question my video raises.

I too fought with the occasional transmission change in various vehicles for years. I bought a jack adapter thinking that was good. Finally not too long ago I bought a real transmission jack for my last job. Omgosh. Had I known how much difference it would make, I’d have bought one years ago. It makes it so easy to guide the transmission in and out without having to manhandle it.

If I had a hard floor I might consider upgrading my jack, but I'm rolling around on carpet over sand and pouring a pad isn't in my future unless something goes viral. Ha! Not that kind of content... I know. But next time an injector won't come out you can bet I'm gonna "spit on that thang!"

Interesting to see how it's done on an automatic. Have taken out a manual three times to change the clutch. Had to do it alone and used that ratchet strap. Made it safer. 😄

Hey Bill, wanted to chime in on this. You didn’t really highlight it but it appears you left the torque converter attached to the engine when removing the trans. This is not really encouraged as A- as you’re removing the trans it can damage the input shaft seal and that can brick your trans quite quick if you don’t catch it. B- getting the torque converter re- splined into the pump is usually a 3 phase engagement that if done incorrectly can burn up your pump. Undoing the 3 bolts that hold the TC to the flex plate is pretty easy on these and is the right way to remove a trans in any automatic. Just some friendly advice. Thanks for sharing as always!

I agree! Many things I did in this video are done wrong and I fully acknowledge this. Rotating the engine to align the torque converter worked but it is certainly not the right way. There are 6 bolts to remove our torque converter and with them all removed the TC will usually stay on the engine anyhow. BUT.... it is wise to gently pry the TC off the engine and align it on the transmission before reinstalling the transmission. Oops! I'll do better on the next one. I've swapped engines by pulling the pair, moving the trans and TC then reinstalling the pair, so attaching the TC to the trans first was natural but didn't cross my mind until I had trouble with that last half inch. At that point turning the engine was worth a shot, avoiding the need to drop it and start over. That would have been wise* but what's that got to do with me? :) I an't tryn' to hear dat', see?

Removed a Nag1 and tc from donor van with unknown status so just hording for possible future rebuild. Is there any way to test either or maybe do like you and "acquire more vans"😄 The wife would love that👿

Only way I know to test them is put 'em in and send-it! Don't tell wifey two vans very quickly become three, then four. If you have a gambling issue* stay away from this T1N sport/game. I'm not saying it is addictive but you'll get hooked.

Since we're on the topic of replacing...could I be able to install a 3500 engine into a 2500 body (since the engine room is some what similar)?

There is no difference in the engines of a 2500 & 3500. It is an easy swap and I have at least one recent video detailing the tools and steps I take. This video may still be in the members-only section of our support group, patreon.com/Florida_Van_Man?Link&

Would a transmission from a 03 T1N swap into a 06 T1N without needing to modify anything? I am having a rod bearing going out on my 03 van and am looking a a good price on a 06 van that is having a transmission speed sensor issue.... apparently it has a P220A code and a P2562 code. It looks like swapping out the transmission is easier than swapping out the engine.

Transmission will swap but it looks like that bad transmission only needs a full service with new conductor plate. We have a video for that.

NAG1 722.6 made by Mercedes also used in various sedans like e230 and some Chrysler products like Jeep Grand Cherokee, Charger, Challenger and more.
@michaelmann5732
@michaelmann5732 Ай бұрын
@@joegrochowski669 be aware though that even though the Nag1 is in many vehicles, they aren’t all the same inside. There’s an interchange chart on Wikipedia. If you install a different transmission than the one designed for your model, the computer will go crazy and you’re going to have all kinds of issues. There’s a data plate on the transmission by the shift linkage that identifies which model of the Nag1 you have.
