Yes, this is from Euclid. The method for subdividing any line segment into equal pieces involves drawing another line going off in some other direction, subdividing it with a known unit, then drawing parallel lines through the subdivision points to intersect the original line. In this case the parallel lines are verticals that follow the direction of the edge of the paper, so the result subdivides the top of the paper in 6 parts.

Update: If this video has helped you narrow down your options, the kind people over at A. Gallo also just sent me a discount code for you! If you're interested in making a purchase during this month's restock on August 28, use the code LIQUIDCOLOR10 for 10% off (not sponosred or an affiliate code). Original: Today we are taking a long, casual look at A. Gallo’s watercolor dot card! The quality is a little lower than usual due to the massive size of the video, but I hope it’s still enjoyable for those of you who like long-form content! If you’d like to see a more succinct and comprehensive review about this brand, be sure to let me know here in the comments! High resolution scans of the final swatch sheets and my short list of favorites for a limited palette are available on Patreon. At the time of this video’s release, the next A. Gallo shop update is August 28. However, some colors are currently in stock over at Jackson’s (my apologies that I didn’t know this at the time of recording)! All of those links along with the videos I mentioned are in the description above. What are some of your favorites from A. Gallo? If you don’t already own this brand, are any colors tempting you?

Hullo Denise, I purchased the classic 12 palette, but when I asked they removed the greens that came in the set and I replaced them with another yellow, Royal Yellow, a nice middle Red, with buff titanium and a bright blue teal! So 14 colors in the 12 metal palette! I do enjoy watching your swatch videos, I still want to see you use these paints in a painting, as in real world application and how they work for you and your painting style! I have never been a single pigment artist, I do recognize that beginners benefit from the pure colors and avoiding mud! I am thinking about replacing 2 of my 14 with a convenience green and the new synthetic blue! YLM MN! I am glad to see all of these colors yet I believe they have good samples of their paints on the website!

I immensely enjoy watching all your videos, be them swatching, painting, or teaching us new things about pigments; but I rarely comment. This time I wanted to insert a friendly, fun fact regarding the slate grey/scisto color. Scisto is Italian for schist (or “shist”) which is a rock easy to split into planes, or flakes. In popular terminology, this rock is also called slate, or shale. I would guess that the grey color of the pigment presented here would be a nod to the general blue-green-grey color that one would imagine when one would mention the word “slate”. Pigment nerd and retired geologist here, now exiting the scene. Thank you, Denise! Hugs from California 🤗

I have the Signature set with YLN MIN Blue. I really like the texture of these paints, probably because of the honey, they are easy to rewet and smell great. That said, I'm still a little disappointed in the color choices in this set. The Arancione and the Hokkaido Orange are very close, I would have preferred a real red to the Crimson Hue alizarin which has the PR 177 fugitive it seems, and finally replaced the Fig Green by a kind of Payne's Grey, I realize that I use a lot of Indanthrone Blue to darken my colors. The YLN MIN Blue is a curiosity but not worth the cost, a good Ultramarine does the job. Maybe it's just me, but they are so expensive that I save them and I don't feel as free as with cheaper brands. But, hey, maybe I should have thought of all that before this impulse buy.

It’s a little hard to tell but would you say that the cerulean hue is closer to an actual cerulean or is the zirconium a better dupe? I watched someone else’s swatching video and they looked much more different but I’m not sure if maybe they had a filter that made everything brighter and more saturated(?) in their video the cerulean hue kinda reminded me of censorious blue from sennelier which I do have! They seem outrageously expensive for the quality and features and yet they are been reviewed everywhere. I wonder if it is just a big promotional campaign but no true real value for the price behind... I mean 8 to 15$ for a small pan? Uhg!

They're not for everyone.

You can always watch it at double speed. But I will agree with Denise, not everyone will enjoy swatching videos.

It is not only about the watching but the listening to the ton of information Denise provides. Also, if I don’t want to/cannot buy all the different brand‘s dot cards, these swatch videos provide the experience on seeing the colors behave and dry. If none of this is interesting for you, then that’s ok. 😊

@@rainett Oh, I agree with you about the information and swatching. Swatching also helps me decide what to buy 🙂

You just blew my goddamn MIND with that ruler trick. Holy shit. I will literally use that for life!

Very excited to watch some A Gallo swatching as soon as I can get a break in my day (week)! I have some of the paints, but I hope to get the dot cards some time.
