Yes, this is from Euclid. The method for subdividing any line segment into equal pieces involves drawing another line going off in some other direction, subdividing it with a known unit, then drawing parallel lines through the subdivision points to intersect the original line. In this case the parallel lines are verticals that follow the direction of the edge of the paper, so the result subdivides the top of the paper in 6 parts.

At 78 , I refuse to have regrets and now have almost all their colors. Just back to watercolors and so inspired by Aline's paints. Couldn't pick a favorite, and now there's a Meteorite brown! Now have to reorganize my colors from my snapshot buying sprees

That is wonderful! I am 50 and just starting my art journey :) what is the best way to know how to collect all the colors? I would love to order the 48 set, the only thing that holds me back is not knowing which one to get, lol. I just got the 36 natural colors from Jacksons. They are so beautiful and feel like such a special treat!

Update: If this video has helped you narrow down your options, the kind people over at A. Gallo also just sent me a discount code for you! If you're interested in making a purchase during this month's restock on August 28, use the code LIQUIDCOLOR10 for 10% off (not sponosred or an affiliate code). Original: Today we are taking a long, casual look at A. Gallo’s watercolor dot card! The quality is a little lower than usual due to the massive size of the video, but I hope it’s still enjoyable for those of you who like long-form content! If you’d like to see a more succinct and comprehensive review about this brand, be sure to let me know here in the comments! High resolution scans of the final swatch sheets and my short list of favorites for a limited palette are available on Patreon. At the time of this video’s release, the next A. Gallo shop update is August 28. However, some colors are currently in stock over at Jackson’s (my apologies that I didn’t know this at the time of recording)! All of those links along with the videos I mentioned are in the description above. What are some of your favorites from A. Gallo? If you don’t already own this brand, are any colors tempting you?

So lovely to have one of these videos to watch. I've really missed your "swatching" videos! There are so many of their colors that I'd love to have... Pietro Rose is at the top of that list, as well as their many natural greens. Their Aquamarine is stunning; as is the Midnight Blue and Harbor Blue.

I just wanted to say that I am truly curious about the Bloxx paints. They have some very large ceramic pans and they have been around for years and years! They say ALL their colors are permanent and Have been so since 1865! I hope you have a chance to try them out! You might check with St. Louis art supply I bet that you would get a sample from them to make a video on!

Hullo Denise, I purchased the classic 12 palette, but when I asked they removed the greens that came in the set and I replaced them with another yellow, Royal Yellow, a nice middle Red, with buff titanium and a bright blue teal! So 14 colors in the 12 metal palette! I do enjoy watching your swatch videos, I still want to see you use these paints in a painting, as in real world application and how they work for you and your painting style! I have never been a single pigment artist, I do recognize that beginners benefit from the pure colors and avoiding mud! I am thinking about replacing 2 of my 14 with a convenience green and the new synthetic blue! YLM MN! I am glad to see all of these colors yet I believe they have good samples of their paints on the website!

I immensely enjoy watching all your videos, be them swatching, painting, or teaching us new things about pigments; but I rarely comment. This time I wanted to insert a friendly, fun fact regarding the slate grey/scisto color. Scisto is Italian for schist (or “shist”) which is a rock easy to split into planes, or flakes. In popular terminology, this rock is also called slate, or shale. I would guess that the grey color of the pigment presented here would be a nod to the general blue-green-grey color that one would imagine when one would mention the word “slate”. Pigment nerd and retired geologist here, now exiting the scene. Thank you, Denise! Hugs from California 🤗

The downside is that it then takes three years to get accurate results 🙈 (I have them up for about four months each year, which is basically when we have sun in Sweden 😅) It took a while to understand that I needed to do these tests, but eventually I resigned to it since I kept getting so sad and disappointed when other people discovered that some paints marked as lightfast are in fact Not. I just bought some a. Gallo and just got them today. I haven't opened them yet because I'm waiting to open with my daughter ( btw it's been super killer to not open). It was super difficult to get a hold of, they sold out within minutes of especially the colora I was after. I ran into an issue with checkout and they had the absolute best customer service Ive had in a very long time. They answered my question(s) extremely quick, even considering the time difference ( 6 hrs for me). Thank you for this review I haven't been able to find many reviews other than just a few short ones that swatched a few colors but they didn't provide too much info other than what is readily available and or opinions. Have a great day

Fun fact: YInMn Blue’s name comes from the elements *Yy*ttrium, *In*dium, *M*anga*n*ese. If you want to try it, the most cost effective way by far is to buy an A. Gallo palette that includes it because those palettes aren’t any more expensive. Thank you, Denise; I’ve got most of the A. I have the Signature set with YLN MIN Blue. I really like the texture of these paints, probably because of the honey, they are easy to rewet and smell great. That said, I'm still a little disappointed in the color choices in this set. The Arancione and the Hokkaido Orange are very close, I would have preferred a real red to the Crimson Hue alizarin which has the PR 177 fugitive it seems, and finally replaced the Fig Green by a kind of Payne's Grey, I realize that I use a lot of Indanthrone Blue to darken my colors. The YLN MIN Blue is a curiosity but not worth the cost, a good Ultramarine does the job. Maybe it's just me, but they are so expensive that I save them and I don't feel as free as with cheaper brands. But, hey, maybe I should have thought of all that before this impulse buy.

32:00 hi Denise! I don’t know if you’ll read this but I’m hoping you will 😂 anyway I’ve been looking for a replacement for cerulean blue for a while now and I can’t seem to like any brand’s version enough so far but these two blues look quite close! It’s a little hard to tell but would you say that the cerulean hue is closer to an actual cerulean or is the zirconium a better dupe? I watched someone else’s swatching video and they looked much more different but I’m not sure if maybe they had a filter that made everything brighter and more saturated(?) in their video the cerulean hue kinda reminded me of censorious blue from sennelier which I do have! But it’s too pthaloy for my taste so I’m wondering also is it similar to that color? Thank you in advanced!

Isn’t PG7 and most phthalos bad for the environment? I’m understand that Cadmiums and Cobalts and similar are. Speaking of that, isn’t nickel bad for the environment? I’m a bit confused. I love the swatches you made and I love the color variety agallo has.☺️

That tip is so good, my brain panics when numbers get involved so this is really useful. Why is it so satisfying to just watch someone swatch art supplies or swatch them yourself? Out of curiosity, what difference does it make that the paint is honey based?
@InLiquidColor
@InLiquidColor 2 жыл бұрын
Honey is a humectant, like glycerine. It draws moisture from the air so they don't get as hard.

A cursory google says that Morellone is a type of grape, also known as Montepulciano. That's all I got for you.

For the numbers thing, have you ever heard of dyscalculia?
@InLiquidColor
@InLiquidColor 2 жыл бұрын
I have, and it's not that either. I was very good in algebra, and I always understand the numbers I'm looking at. It's specifically when I have to verbally say a sequence of numbers or write them down when someone else is speaking, and I also do it with acronyms (mixing up the order of the letters, but understanding what they stand for. Example, I may read or hear 1674 and understand 1674, but write down 1764 in my notes. Reciting credit card numbers over the phone is something I have to be extremely attentive to as well haha. I'm not an auditory learner, so maybe that's all it is, but it's been a consistent, lifelong issue 😅

Morellone would be related to Morello cherries, I’d guess.

Forgive the silly question, I am a newbie to watercolour - what does 'fugitive' mean in terms of watercolour paints?

It means they fade in sunlight. Check out Kimberly Crick's website for more info (link in the description).

Nice video but I wonder what is the thing with A. Gallo watercolours lately... Every youtuber seem to be reviewing the brand but nobody really highlights any special feature. If you want variety you get Daniel Smith, if you want price, you get white nights, if you want flow you get qor... But what do you get with E Gallo? Just handmade quality? They seem outrageously expensive for the quality and features and yet they are been reviewed everywhere. I wonder if it is just a big promotional campaign but no true real value for the price behind... I mean 8 to 15$ for a small pan? Uhg!

It is not only about the watching but the listening to the ton of information Denise provides. Also, if I don’t want to/cannot buy all the different brand‘s dot cards, these swatch videos provide the experience on seeing the colors behave and dry. If none of this is interesting for you, then that’s ok. 😊
