I grew up with a 1486 that had a 4 post rops cab. One of my favorites. Glad to see this old girl being cared for elegantly

This is my all time favorite tractor, I’ve always liked the look and sound of this machine. My Grandpa had a 986 for awhile and then a 1086. They were the work horses on his dairy farm for quite a few years back in the 80’s. Loved seeing this tractor in action Mike! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for 2022! Happy New Year to you and your family!

We seed a blend of red clover and rye as a cover crop in late September. They hold the soil from erosion over winter and add some nitrogen as they die off . We see a yield boost from the cover crops especially in soybeans. By the time we plant into the cover crop it's already 2 or 3 feet tall and thick . Sometimes we swath and chop it for feeding our cattle then plant into the stubble . Red clover looks great once it has bloomed . Great video !

You can tell that 1086 is well cared for just looking at it. So clean and good paint for a tractor of that age. I had a 14 foot Versatile swather back in the that time period. It looked identical to that one. I wonder if they were made in the same factory.

I agree you don't see that every day. Mike you're a person who is the only one I have come across to add so much variety into various farming techniques. Always greatfull to see different machines and contraptions in the agricultural industry. Nice job again. I like Mike. Happy subscriber 😀!

That one brought back good memories. We had an IH 75 swather 25' that we used for grain. It was really a nice machine. Had a Versatile pull-type prior to that but it wasn't near the machine - worked nice in grain but didn't like it when there were weeds and some tough stuff. We were using an Owatonna 16' for hay that wasn't very good for grain. Then we traded that off for an IH 4000 Self-propelled with a 19.5 ft header and it was a sweet machine. Didn't use the pull-type much after that as the 4000 was so smooth and laid down such a nice windrow for the grain that it picked up much cleaner and was much faster. Cut ripe grain at 10-11 mph.

That's very neat seeing this swather in action. These were designed and built by Hay & Forage Industries in Hesston, KS and were identical to the Hesston model 1200 except for the paint and decals. (HFI was a joint venture between CaseIH and Fiat then AGCO and existed from 1987 until 2001.) Most were sold in the Dakotas, Montana, and the Canadian prairie provinces.

That stuff actually tastes pretty good. I could see using it in a salad. I think some people do? I plant it sometimes along the back of my property to keep the deer busy. They love the stuff and leave my bushes alone. lol

Sweet video...love seeing the classics still being put to work. I grew up on/in a 1086. In 1981 my father bought a brand new one with digital tach; as a boy I’d ride with him while he plowed with its mated IH 720 5 btm plow. Unfortunately I turned into a JD snob in my 20s and encouraged him to sell it and I’ve felt bad ever since. We’re from western NY, it went to VT. ☹️

We have a 1086 with MFWD on our farm here in Western NY. I believe they were built with one of two front ends...ours has an Elwood front end and parts are getting harder and harder to find.
