I rediscovered the Chaconne thanks to this interpretation of Fukuma… the best one to me yet. It gives incredible volume to the one hand transcription of Brahms, much purer than the two handed Busoni one. Fukuma captures the essence of the distinctive moods and the deep emotions of each of the multiple movements composing this masterpiece, yet rendering its unity and coherence. From the first interrogative, anxious and combative sad chords, we embarque on the long journey of protest and chaos to find in the middle an incredible piece and serenity, an ode to God, to plunge in an inner dialogue of contrarian views leading to a perfectly balanced resolution of decisive serein acceptance of all that life brings to us.
