Wait so to fight obesity she wants to normalize it? Shaming people doesn’t make them fatter. I think acknowledging it with a open dialogue is how to fight it. Feeling a way because someone calls you out is what needs to change.

Shaming people does make them fatter. It’s just ONE of the things that can make them fatter. People develop disordered eating (which can cause underweight issues as well that people conveniently care less about) from early childhood experiences as a way to cope, either a caregiver/parent’s restriction of food or compensation with food, obsession with body image, or even abuse. These things can cause people to eat to gain weight to protect themselves from abuse or unwanted attention or just for some form of controll. So you have to reconsider what you call “open dialogue”. If is truly open, it will also consider social determinants, not just “jUsT dOnT bE EaTiN aLL dA tiMe.” I didn’t hear her say anything about normalizing obesity. I heard her say normalizing the broader conversation. I’m for accountability and I don’t believe life is lived without encountering shame at some point. It’s part of life. But the idea is not to dwell in shame and to know the difference between people who are honest with you to help you versus people who unknowingly cause harm. I don’t think people can tell the difference yet. Thas why there is confusion (as it appears here) what shame is and how it impacts.

I would Like to add that it needs to start with the media, good commercials that continually plagued our televisions and media. Portions sizes, sugar, and other food industry tricks to sale is a great impact in America. I spoke to some British gents who explained to me that in Britain sugar filled drinks and foods are band and not advertised are not allowed and there are additional taxes paid or sugar filled items which decreases its attraction. Let’s not just deal with the symptoms which I thank Queen for bringing this subject to light but with her influence it’s the industries that thrive off of our bad health, including the health and pharmaceutical industries who promote selling us junk in bulk …lets start with the root, advertisement and media who feed our sub conscious with process foods and sugar.
