Very nice rifle! I agree with you about Zastava and CZ, they make great Mauser rifles. Yesterday I bought an Interarms Mark X International in .270 Winchester. The rifle was made in 1977 and is wonderfully finished. It has the re-enforcing bolt in the stock so splitting at the tang aught not be an issue. It also has a butterknife bolt handle and double set triggers. That set trigger will be great for target shooting but maybe not so much for hunting.

Well shot! I’m from Oz and have a very similar rifle now in 22-250. , single stage, adjustable Canjar trigger a big help. Shoot mainly 70 gr. Speer bullets. Had it for 40 years , very effective.

My country of ancestry, my favorite rifle manufacturer, my favorite rifle action, my favorite caliber, one of my favorite video makers... this evening just isn't going to get ANY better. In 2007 I used a Remington 700 Classic in 8mm Mauser topped with a Zeiss Conquest scope to harvest a bison in Wyoming. The gun was dead-on accurate; I was an ass, thinking I knew more than my guide about where to place the shot. You can only hit the spine if you KNOW where the spine is, and, failing to study bison physiology prior to my hunt, all I did was ruin the hump roast. If your guide says "shoot him through the heart," you should listen to him. I paid money for his expertise and ignored it. Four shots and several hours later, I anchored my bison with a heart shot. I'm perfectly OK with my life being harder because I made stupid choices, but I will never, ever forgive myself for prolonging that majestic animal's suffering. The 8mm Mauser is accurate. Know your rifle, and just as important, know your quarry.GREAT video, as always, sir!

As an American Indian whose culture called that animal a "yun-su", I'll say this, we all make mistakes. I completely agree that causing a bison suffering was not your best move. Again though, we all make mistakes. Learning from our mistakes is the best we can do sometimes. Presumably, that's your takeaway. Oh, and before you question my use of the seemingly antiquated term "Indian", my family is from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. As a result, I choose to call myself American Indian, as opposed to the made up, more politically correct term Native American. That's my choice. I hope I haven't offended you. I got my centurion hitting 5 inches high at 100 yards for a 300 yard zero with 180grain hornady gmx. I got a 3x9x40 scope with 1 piece burris base and leupold rings. Very beautiful commercial mauser 98. I love mine. Mine must have cracked because it came with a syntech ramline black stock. You got very awsome guns. Every gun i see from you is amazing and the kind i really want.

I've got a 9.3x62 in the same model. Love it a lot. Had mine drilled and tapped for scope use but zeroed my iron sights for 50 meters with a 6 o clock hold. Loading 285gr norma oryx and 286gr Stewart solids.

Thank you for a very detailed video. I have a Husqvarna FN almost just like your's BUT mine is marked 8x57 where your's is marked 8mm, on the barrel top. Also mine does not have the ramped up area on the action rear where the stripper clip slots were, mine is just the same contour all the way across that whole rear receiver area. Everything else looks identical. Thanks for sharing, Paul

Every Husqvarna made are I caliber 8x57IS independent of the marking 8mm or 8x57 and so on.

Would glass bedding around the recoil lug and the tang mitigate the tendency of the action to split the stock at the tang?

These are pretty rifles that aren't too expensive here in Oregon. Perhaps you could pillar bed the action screws, and remove a sliver of wood behind the tang to avoid cracking her stock?

In my unprofessional opinion, this rifle has been refinished. The forend is a non-typical shape for this version of the Husqvarna model 640, and the checkering is not to the level of the Husqvarna factory. Also, I believe that FN actions always had the bolts left in the "white" rather than being blued. That said, this is a very nice rifle and my favorite version on the 640 with it's barrel mounted sling swivel and more classical rear sight block. Husqvarna rifles were not Oberndorf level rifles but were very well made woods rifles for the hunter and outdoorsman. I love them personally and I respect your taste in guns as well. I hope this rifle has put some moose venison in your freezer since making this video.

Husqvarna is a good brand to collect, they will increase in value. Although younger generations of hunters in Sweden often do not understand the greatness of Swedish gunmaking. Sadly gunmaking in Sweden is dead since it is impossible to get a permit to make guns here now. I particuarly like the 1600 action. And the old No33 rolling block.

U must reinforce the stock before! !! the split. Drill a hole starting inside the action well, than epoxy and a treaded steel rod into it. The drill bit must be 6" or longer (harbor freight )

If you epoxy bed the action before you shoot the rifle too much, you might be able to avoid getting a crack in the stock at the tang. I picked up a very nice Husqvarna 98 Mauser in 9.3x57 a couple of years ago that wasn't cracked behind the tang. I had the rifle epoxy bedded to prevent the stock from cracking and it hasn't cracked yet, though I haven't shot it a whole lot yet either. Time will tell, but I think I did the right thing to prevent cracking.

Disagree that the 98 is "better than the 1600 series". The 1640 was improved exactly like the pre 64 Winchester model 70. The ejector is angled so the left or upper lug need not be slotted. Also, I'm told the commercial FN actions had an extra slot inside for access during the machining process which weakens it slightly. Other minor details can be argued but finally the steel used on the 1640 is a modern mix that is stronger.

Darlene Graham 1640 steel is better because it needs to be. I love the 1640 but prefer the old large ring 98’s. I never said one was better than the other however I prefer the traditional 98.
