Sweden’s military readies fighter jets, submarines, naval fleet and troops ahead of joining NATO

As Sweden prepares to join NATO, thereby ending 200 years of neutrality and military non-alignment, the military says it is ready for the "necessary" move.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom travelled to Washington on Wednesday (March 6) where they are expected to complete the process of joining NATO.
Sweden will immediately become NATO's 32nd member when it deposits the formal documentation.
"I feel good. It's been a long journey, of course, and it's a political decision that we in the armed forces in the Swedish Navy really stand by, and unfortunately it's a necessary move, a big move in Swedish national policy, but for sure it's about the security environment in our part of Europe," said the Commander of Sweden's Fourth Naval Flotilla, Anders Backstrom, speaking at the Berga Naval Base near Stockholm.

I saw Swedish troops in a cafe in Richmond in North Yorkshire, last year. They had their camo uniforms on, and were happily tucking into the food on offer in the cafe. I imagine they were based at Catterick during a training exercise of some sort..... Sweden is not a nation you would want to be at war with.... We have dismantled pretty much our whole defence (before feb 2022) and even the swedish military confessed we could not last even a week…Since then not much have happened and we would need to spend 3-4% already now and not a measle 2% (which includes pensions and stuff like that) That we now-more than 2 years in to this awful rape of another peaceful country-have not even managed to put in “overdrive” when it comes to production and ramping up our defence is no less than shameful

Sweden doesn't need to "prepare" for NATO. Just like Finland and the northern European nations in general, they didn't skimp on their military like so many of the founding European NATO countries. They are a huge contribution to the Alliance. Germany and the likes should start to pay up for the NATO membership and invest in their defense.

It doesn't matter that Sweden and Finland join NATO. In the event of a war, these countries would have been supported with weapons anyway, just like Ukraine is now. The fact remains that NATO is afraid of a direct conflict with Russia. They do not want to and cannot risk a war against Russia.
