Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. It has the most populous urban area in Sweden as well as in Scandinavia. 1 million people live in the municipality, approximately 1.6 million in the urban area, and 2.4 million in the metropolitan area. The city stretches across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. Outside the city to the east, and along the coast, is the island chain of the Stockholm archipelago. The area has been settled since the Stone Age, in the 6th millennium BC, and was founded as a city in 1252 by Swedish statesman Birger Jarl. It is also the county seat of Stockholm County.

Question for the Swedish speaking people. Gata means street, right? Anytime I hear a street name it has gata at the end. Can you name a street without using the gata at the end? For example: My favourite coffee place is at the corner of this street and Repslagar? Instead of saying Repslagargata? I hope this makes sense! :)

We say gata or väg, like in Sveavägen 👍 Repslagargatan looks very different nowadays. Used to be an area with small industries and quite rough. I trained at a gym there way back.

Hötorgshallen is way older than Söderhallarna.

Stadens äldsta fortfarande existerande saluhall är Östermalmshallen (invigd 1888). Det fanns fler saluhallar som försvann med tiden, exempelvis Maria saluhall vid Hornsgatan (riven i slutet på 1920-talet). Ännu 1955 fanns en flytande fiskhall i Riddarfjärden vid Kornhamnstorg.[2]

So much to see today, very interesting. Franskmannen seems to be Pølsemannen's trademark frankfurter. It suddenly occurred to me who Kasper is in English, Punch from the Punch and Judy Show. In Swedish it seems to be known as Kasperteater.

Frankfurter is really weird. It's actually the Austrian name for what we Germans call Wiener (Würstchen) or Wienerle. They have nothing to do with France. By the way, they are our favourite Christmas dinner together with potato salad. 😋 The lizzards to me look like moles. Hence the eyes. 🤓
