I don’t think there’s anything wrong with indulging in luxury pleasures. The problem is the need to prove to people. It speaks to a deeper issue of low self-esteem. Contrary to popular opinion I do like some of the Jante rules even though they stem from satire. I love the idea that no person is better than the next, that you’re not defined by what you do. That is absolute freedom. I’m not what I do, I’m in service to humanity. Unfortunately, with social media crippling people’s self worth - we’re going to see a decline in such humility.

It's common in the UK to take a "gap year" between high school and uni. Usually kids go travelling. My niece went to Australia, Thailand and Japan. Very enjoyable video yet again!

Wow .. another great video , the one reminds me of my good ole days in Sweden. My friends apartment was in Artilerigatan in Oster. I would tell them how can you live in this small apt . They should tear it down and build something American style big and spacious. They joked back I was always tearing things down to make new stuff and charge tons on money.!

My house is in the video, i walk or run on the field at the end every day. There have been some pretty big festivals with Metallica, Foo fighters, Bieber etc on the fields, despite it being so close to a residential area.

Aesthetically yes. Stockholm is still beautiful, despite the socialist planning to demolish most of this when they took power in 1932. However, they only managed to destroy some 25-30% of Stockholm, thanks to cultural resistance, oil crisis (1973/74) and several other factors.

11:56 That architecture (art nouveau, nybarock or nationalromantik) was actually pretty standard for "high schools" in Sweden before the socialist decided to tear down most of them during the 1950-80s. Only a few survived. So that particular school is kind of "posh" more because of its clientel, not really because of its architecture.

In Sweden boasting about your wealth is frown upon, Jante law won't allow it. Do you know because of this unwritten rules standing on a table in a night club and spraying champagne was banned in Sweden?
@letswalkaroundstockholm3 жыл бұрын
I mean the more subtile showing , not the obvious Champagne style haha

@@letswalkaroundstockholm stockholm is a very fascinating city, people are trying so hard to be different to the point where they all end up looking the same. Subconsciously you’re taught to be a member of a group in Sweden, so individualism and individualistic tendencies are frown upon hence the Jente Law. Constantly use I in Sweden and you’ll lose friends.
@77yggfe12ujn3 жыл бұрын
Well.., to spray champagne is not illegal but is banned in night clubs/restaurants with referral to the Alcohol law, and not being orderly behaviour, because the floor becomes very sticky. In response to this ban the brats instead started to "vaska" the champagne, i.e. tell the bartender to poor it out in the sink, to show that you can afford it. Really nasty, bratty behaviour that most "normal" people despice. "Jante" is a contraction of the words Jag and Inte (I and Not), like "not me", not wanting to show off or exaggerate your success 😊 Meaning "don't think that you are better than anyone else"
