Original 1920 Swedish m/96 Mauser made at the Carl Gustafs State Rifle Factory in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Chambered in 6.5x55mm Swedish. This particular one was sold to Finland at some point and possibly played a minor role in the Winter War and/or Continuation War. It was later sold back to Sweden before eventually being sold off as surplus.
I filmed this one early on, but the sights were blurry, so I thought I'd revisit it. Lovely rifles that shoot extremely well. I highly recommend picking one up if you have the chance!

Seems like it was treated well in its life. Particularly for one of the rifles that was sold to Finland

We never went to war with them, and the guns and volunteers we sent to Finland mostly helped in the rear echelons as to free up the more standardized stuff for the frontlines.

Nicely shot as always. Bought one a couple of months ago in nearly prestine condition (man. 1907), probably the nicest gun I've gotten so far- and no paperwork required for them here in France oddly enough. Cock-on-close mausers should be the norm, not the exception!

### Type 38 Arisaka **Upsides:** - **Accuracy:** Known for its good accuracy and reliable performance. - **Build Quality:** Solid construction and durable design. - **Ammunition:** Uses the 6.5×50mm Arisaka cartridge, which was effective for its time. **Downsides:** - **Recoil:** The 6.5mm cartridge produces noticeable recoil, which may be uncomfortable for some shooters. - **Ammunition Availability:** Post-WWII, ammunition for the Type 38 has become less common and can be more expensive. - **Ergonomics:** Some find the design less comfortable compared to modern rifles. ### Swedish Mauser 96 **Upsides:** - **Accuracy:** Highly regarded for its precision and accuracy. - **Build Quality:** Excellent craftsmanship and robust construction. - **Ammunition:** Uses the 6.5×55mm Swedish Mauser cartridge, known for its accuracy and effective range. **Downsides:** - **Recoil:** The 6.5×55mm cartridge has mild recoil, which is generally manageable, but the rifle’s weight can affect handling. - **Weight:** The rifle is heavier than some modern rifles, which may affect mobility. - **Modern Features:** Lacks some modern features found in contemporary rifles, such as advanced optics and modularity. ### Verdict Both rifles are excellent examples of their respective designs and have their own strengths. The Type 38 Arisaka offers robust construction and accuracy, while the Swedish Mauser 96 is renowned for its precision and build quality. If you prefer a rifle with a solid build and are comfortable with slightly heavier recoil, the Type 38 is a great choice. On the other hand, if accuracy and craftsmanship are your top priorities, the Swedish Mauser 96 stands out. Your preference might come down to personal comfort and the type of shooting experience you seek. Copy pasted from chatgpt

There were probably some, but with less standard guns and ammo that was mostly moved to the rear, so that more of the standardized stuff could be on the frontlines where you want as little logistic friction as possible. You'd see a lot of this with various guns given as military aid to Ukraine today for instance. M14s and FALs isn't exactly what they usually roll with, but they're still perfectly good rifles so they're good for guard duty and patrolling more securely controlled territories, leaving more AK74s for the frontline units.
