In mid-June, it seems like the sun never sets. In fact, in the north of Sweden it doesn’t, and in the south only for an hour or two. This calls for celebration! Friends and family gather for the most typically Swedish tradition of all: Midsummer swedn.me/NightOfMakingSwedishBabies

Hollywood has a remarkable ability to turn wholesome and innocent things into creepy, scary ones. They did it with european trips, nursery rhymes and kids' songs, dolls, holidays and traditions like Halloween and now Midsummer. I've been to one of these Midsummer festivals years before the movie came out and let me tell you it was the most innocent event I've ever been to. I remember watching this video before this movie even had a trailer. And the festival only lasted a few hours I think, certainly not days. All I can say is, don't let Hollywood warp your view of the world or you won't even leave the house out of fear.

My whole life Sweden has played a massive role in my life because when my mom was in high school they had a Swedish exchange student come and stay for a year and, since my mothers an only sibling, the two are basically sisters. So we’ve kept a pretty close relation to our Swedish “family”. I’ve always wanted to go to Midsommer since my mom went to one when she was in Sweden for a whole summer and I’ve always wanted to go.

Aron M That’s cool, I ’m fifteen, and I’m from Sweden and my favourite festival is DEFINATELY midsummer. It’s just something special about it and you can tell that there’s happiness in the air. Also I love the food, the meatballs, potatoes and strawberrycake- that’s also what I always eat with my family after graduating. I’m glad for once that we have different kinds of weather here because that makes you want to enjoy every second of summer there is. Also sorry if I made some english-mistakes, I’ve only learned it in school. :)

I'm a native Swede and I have experienced this many times. That little bit about a downpour was pretty funny! Midsummer, like they said, is second in importance right behind Christmas. I've never had the vodka and I think I'll pass on that one. However, the food is delicious!! The dancing is real traditional Swedish and a lot of fun. The biggest and most exciting moment is when they raise the Maypole. BTW, I was raised in the United States but we travel back to Sweden every summer. Unfortunately, we can't do that this year due to COVID19.
