The Swedes have long been known for their military craft. So, it is not at all surprising that the descendants of the Vikings continue to create effective weapons that today help Ukrainians defend their native land.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Sweden has transferred various types of weapons to Ukraine, which have already proved useful. Watch this video to learn more about the best Swedish combat vehicles available to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Why can Sweden with a population of 10 million be so technologically advanced while Canada with a population 0f 40 million has no military capability?
@hugodesrosiers-plaisance3156
@hugodesrosiers-plaisance3156 6 күн бұрын
@@keithpeterson5127 Let's unpack that, there's a few layers. First, Canada does have military capabilities. Those capabilities are indeed relatively limited, however the training and efficiency of the Canadian military is often commented upon by allies during joint exercises. Canada also boasts the JTF-2 elite unit, which is widely regarded as peer to Delta Force, SEALs, SAS, etc. I have personally known a former JTF-2 member; at 21 years old, he was hunting Serbian snipers in Sarajevo. Top tier stuff, but with a very clear "defensive" mindset, i.e. keeping the city safe rather than going on the offensive. Second, Canada has historically chosen to position itself geopolitically in more of a support role; logistics, medical units, peacekeeping, etc. Third, Canada can afford to focus on such "less lethal" roles because it has no enemies within striking distance. Sweden on the other hand, is well within direct reach of a Russian strike. They NEED to be able to resist a direct attack. It's an entirely different situation.

@@keithpeterson5127 Here in Sweden we have focused on an education system that is open and free. We have also tilted away from pure fact studies, that makes us look bad in for example PISA, to focus a bit more the usable side of education with creativity, analysis and reasoning that pays of in the innovation index rankings.

@@keithpeterson5127 Born in Sweden in 1975 I grew up with Soviet/Russian threats in mind. At 8 I knew where our local shelter was. I watched recurring reports on the news about their planes breaching our air space. I saw one of their submarines run aground next to one of our top secret military bases. Suffice to say the list is rather long. There was never any doubt as to who our enemy would be in the event of war. I hazard to guess this constant military threat might be the largest factor when it comes to answering your question.

Sweden has punched well above its weight in innovative armaments since the days of the Bofors Gun and before. Many think the JAS39 Gripen is the best fighter for Ukraine given the circumstances. @@davidanalyst671 I said they punched above their weight in developing innovative weapons systems. I said nothing about the relevance of their contribution of these vehicles. As a percentage of GDP Sweden ranks 13th in their relative contribution to the Ukrainian war effort, with 0.51%. That’s at a level similar to Great Britain, Germany and Czechia. The US ranks 19th at 0.32% of GDP. Tops is Estonia at 3.55%. I think Sweden is doing its share and no, I’m not joking about that. They could do better in comparison to their neighbours like Denmark at 2.41% of GDP and hopefully some F16’s coming up, or Norway at 1.72% of GDP but still 13th is not bad.

We could probably give more CV90s (gave 50? and have more than 500?), at least another 50, and more tanks (gave 10 out of 120), at least 30. And perhaps another 10 Archers. Could probably also give 1 out of 4 Patriot batteries. Should be enough to keep one for the mining area in the north, one for Gothenburgh and one for Gotland. But most of all we should scale up the artillery shell production. It is probably difficult to replace the equipment within a few years, but the potential risk for a land war in Southern Sweden must be very low and most threaths could be dealt with by the marine and airforce. The army is primarily needed in the North to help defend Northern Finland with CV90s, Strv 122 and Archers.

The problem is just the amount of equipment and ammunition. Ukraine is a huge country so 10 tanks, 8 archers or 50 CV90 is better than nothing but just too little to make an big impact. All European countries really need to scale up their production. The US will not send any more aid in the coming 4 years so Europe has very little time to scale up and the decisions to do so needs to be made. It should not be possible for Russia to overproduce 30+ countries that are helping Ukraine.

I wish the EU and USA would come together and deliver a significant number of tanks. 50-60 tanks is much better than nothing, but 500+ modern tanks would have made a big difference. On a similar note, 1000+ IFV's like the CV90 and M2 Bradley, but other modern western IFVs. But critically for now is just artillery shells, ammunition, HIMAR rockets, drones, and lots of anti-air (anything from 20-40 mm autocannons to Patriot systems). Shell production has ramped up a lot since the start of the invasion, it's just not enough to meet demand, and the Ukrainian people suffer for it. I'm really happy that the aid package in the USA got through, but us in the EU need to get our shit together as well.

We should send everything we dont need for training. Keep no reserves in Sweden. Proud that we do send much compared to economy size, but ashamed that we dont send much more. Put the foot down, decide that we want Ukraine to win and then give them what they need.

hehe yeah I stumbled over this too. They are supposed to be snipers that take out several other tanks before the opponent even gets in range :) But I guess this is their role now in the Ukraine war. From watch several frontline tank videos, tanks seem to often just go without infantry support and just shoot up infantry positions point blank, which is honestly pretty damn stupid and asking for those tanks to suffer losses that could be avoided.

There is a great importance in prioritizing saving human lives when up against a much bigger country with a lot more manpower potential. The Swedish military knows this, and that more people decides to fight if there is a lot pf effort to protect their lives. This is one of the reasons the military focus a lot on high-tech, high quality equipment and prioritizes high mobility, low visibility, reliability and personell safety. Sweden does not have the industrial capability to mass produce new vehicles like Russia has, so every loss of for example a tank (and worse, its crew), hurts more for Sweden than Russia Protecting the human lives fighting in the war also makes the military retain more of it's highly experienced, skilled people which are extremely valuable assets in a war. Ukraine is already currently having a hard time mobilizing enough people for the defense against Russia and lack enough arms, equipment and vehicle needed to increase survivability at the front. Meanwhile, the fascist Putin-regime shows it's lack of care for the russian military personell and their human value, causing a immense waste of manpower, losing experienced, skilled troops in a much higher pace than Ukraine. They know they have a number advantage which is why they practice the human wave doctrine - to attrite and overwhelm an exhausted and supply lacking enemy.

The Swedish GRIPEN fighters are better for Ukraine's needs and conditions than the more difficult to maintain F-16. But hey, Ukraine will take all of each they can get as long as they have pilots to man (or woman0 them.

Maybe , the Ukrainian soldiers do not all know enough English to communicate with Swedish instructors and Wish there were translators ... With time and practice , Ukrainian soldiers would get more experienced andcskillful in operating such higher tech Swedish weapons...
