As I read the comments, it was plain to see many people were dismayed that hollywood chose Jessica Lange to play the role of Patsy after Beverly literally nailed the performance.

I remember seeing this movie shortly after it came out and getting introduced to Patsy Cline at that time. Recently saw Coal Miner's Daughter (even though it has been out for years and years) and I also think Beverly D'Angelo's own rendition of Sweet Dreams is very enjoyable as well. Patsy Cline died in a plane crash on March 5th, 1963 at the age of 30... A bit of trivia: The incomparable Meryl Streep actually wanted this role and the director was a longtime personal friend of hers. When she made it known to him that she wanted it, he sat her down and told her that she could never do the justice to the role that Jessica Lange could.
