That's not a requirement and it's expensive and some people don't want that and their dog and that's okay. It's not abuse

@Angel Face I don't see where anyone called not chipping your animal "abuse." Lots of things in life aren't required, but it's stupid to not do them if you have the opportunity. It was $25 to chip each of my cats when they were being spayed or neutered. If you can't afford $25, you probably shouldn't have a cat or dog.

I can attest that hounds are most definitely escape artists and runners. I have the 'pleasure' of 3 rescued American Foxhounds.

Yup, it's so very important to chip and tag. My furbabies have a chip, tag I made, and a few tags from other companies in case one falls off. Overkill, maybe, but I want them safe, especially due to one being blind in one eye. I just found a dog a few months ago that had one license tag. I took him into the shelter. He was well taken care of, and I hope the owners came and got him. He ran into the busy road. I opened the door, and he jumped in and booty bumped my niece in the front seat and looked around like finally my ride arrived. let's go, my dudes! He was so sweet.

We adopt rescue beagles. Hound dogs are ruled by their noses. They get a scent and if they can, they will get out of a fenced in yard to follow that scent. Its important to have them chipped

My dog is chipped. But I also have an apple AirTag on his collar. It’s not fool proof. But if for some reason he left I have better odds of finding him.

@@kristinlawrence3704 Mind AirTags only work when they’re in range. But I guess you have better odds of getting in range of your animal with an AirTag then without one.

You can even chip smaller animals! I've seen it done for rabbits and birds, just in case they ever got away.

Strange that he didnt have a collar on him. I am conflicted with chipping but at least a collar with a telephone number. My dog loves her collar, after a bath i keep it off for a day and she is constantly checking on it. Its like her expensive necklace, lol,. After a day, she will whine, bark and make a fuss until i put it back on her.

may i ask why are you conflicted with chipping? i am genuinely curious about what some people think the downside of it might be. here in europe it's been a standard practice for years (before we had tattoos) and owners are subjected to heavy fees if they don't chip their dogs (100 to 250 euro if not chipped within 2 months)

Collars can come off. Some have even strangled dogs. Also if the dog is still growing and not caught the collar can become embedded and eventually kill the dog. Chips are virtually painless (animals often don't react to it at all) it does not output any signal, let alone a dangerous one, lasts forever, have extremely little risk (virtually none that I know of) and will prove ownership in a court of law if your dog is stolen. They are also relatively inexpensive.

I apologize i did not notice your replies. My conflict comes from my friends dog developing a cancerous tumor at the point of insertion. Second, my brothers dog was chipped and over time the chip moved and could not be scanned, in other words, it was lost somewhere inside his dog. These may be isolated cases and worth the risk for most, but not worth it for me personally. You do you.

Bruh. We love our pets, but they aren't people. This dog probably ran off chasing a scent like hounds are known to do, then got lost. They have strong instincts and sometimes those instincts get them into trouble.
