"The Face" was one of the last BoA albums I actually liked. She lost me with "Outgrow" and "Identity," especially "Identity." It seemed like she was just trying to hard to be like Pink and similar artists. But that was what really attracted me to her: that she *wasn't* like one of them.

The American market seems to be nearly impossible for Asian artists to crack. Yeah PSY did it, but he’s gotta be saying to himself, “I’ve been around for years and THIS (Gangnam Style) is what got me into America?”

Larry Wilson same! It wasnt hindsight though I was really doubting her success at US when she announced it back then. On another note, I guess that this “trip” to America had win her many connections which she put into good use with her role as creative director in the SM Entertainment.

I think also the fact that the popularity for solo artist in Japan started fading and avex tried to transition her into more adult oriented content, this was still kind of like sweet innocent BoA. I think she did it better in South Korea then in Japan plus the 5 year gap between her last Korean release Girls On Top and Hurricane Venus was a big thing because now shes starting to get back into this sound of happy pop music again. She lost her footing in the Japanese Music scene but what she lost there she gained in confidence in her K-Pop career I think those 5 years away in Japan made her lose sight of what type of music she likes and what she enjoys releasing as well as her US push that didn't really pan out well. Although Eat You Up was such a good song it was to generic sounding for an Asian artist to push State side, it was like you said a wannabe P!no or Britney song and that wasn't BoA's style or sound, although she did bust out some pretty sick dance moves
