I totally agree, I tried to push the square pit but the customer wanted the round... Came out great but I agree that the square would have looked better. The Black Diamond is beautiful! Thanks for the support man! ✌

Awesome work man! Question, I've seen people filling the pavers gaps using permeable sand. What's your take on it? Doesn't trash go inside the gaps if you leave them open?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I never recommend using regular sand. I always use polymeric sand for the joints. Here is the video where we polymeric sanded this very patio 👉kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZStkJyCa9-epac

I hope this isn’t a dumb question but I’m trying to see if there is a specific pattern to these pavers or if it’s somewhat arbitrary. Is the goal to just mix up the 3 sizes enough so the edges don’t line up too much? I heard you teaching the part about not laying more than 3-4 blocks without breaking up the lines and avoiding any 4 way joints. Are there any other considerations regarding the pattern? Do you just buy the same number of each brick once you’ve calculated how much sq footage is needed?
@1jbegic
@1jbegic Жыл бұрын
It looks awesome... Question, how do you know that paver base 3/4 clean stone is spread uniformed 6 inches across the whole pattio area? Are you using a string some type of guide for that?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Thank you. You can set up string lines, that helps. I typically rake it out 1 section at a time and use the screed pipes to check the grade that way. But honestly, it is just about raking it out little by little and check a few times to make sure you are good.

after it is installed, do you use polymeric sand, or is the concrete sufficient to hold it in place? I have been watching these videos all day and today....awesome work, super clean. I have so many questions from a guy just starting out.
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Yes, we always use polymeric sand in the joints. It locks everything together nicely, stops weeds from growing and prevents water from getting under the pavers. I have a ton of videos on my channel, hopefully they can answer a lot of questions for you ✌🏻

Have you ever tried pouring a concrete curb around the perimeter and putting the pavers in between
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 2 жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea, only bad part is you better be very precise with the pour or you could screw yourself at the end if it is not lined up right. I also don't like seeing concrete around the edge. I try to keep it below grade and out of sight. ✌

If there was no deck or entrance into basement on this job, could you start pavers at foundation wall and work out? Or do you advise against this. I have my pavers being delivered next week. Have nothing but the foundation to come off of. I want to keep it square. If I start at foundation do I keep an inch gap at wall to fill with chip stone?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 2 жыл бұрын
If there were no obstacles, I would definitely start at the foundation. If there is anything that might be up against or in the patio area, start there and square it with the foundation. And yes, definitely leave a 1 inch gap to fill with chip stone for drainage ✌🏻

Have you ever used paver base panels or geogrid so you can do less base work?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 2 жыл бұрын
I have used paver base once for a small project behind a condo complex with no machine access available. That is about the only reason I would use it. Paver base is not enough to protect from freeze / thaw elements. 6 inches of 3/4 inch crushed stone under the pavers is the minimum base I would ever warranty. The base work is the most important thing in this industry, we shouldn't try to save time with that part of the projects. ✌

@TheChristianHardscaper

Thanks man! The pipes I use are galvanized steel gas pipes. You can get them at Home Depot or Lowes. They are 10’ long and 1 inch inner diameter. 1.25 inch exterior diameter. ✌🏻

Hey man. Great vids. I’m installing a big patio and found a great looking quality paver that I like. The problem is that it’a BIG? What’s your opinion on installing these big pavers? It’s like 2 ft by 3 ft. Is it harder or does it go faster?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! The big pavers are nice for laying big areas quickly, but a 2x3 paver is probably a 2 man job. That being said, you really need to screed the bedding stone very smooth…. The bigger the paver, the more fragile believe or not. The biggest pavers we typically work with is about 2’x1.5’. And even those are mixed in with 2 other sizes in the pattern that are smaller. At the end of the day, the big pavers look really nice. Just take your time in the screeding and lay them down carefully and you will be all set ✌🏻

Why only 1 Inch of the chip stone? Can you do more?
@hardscape_ny
@hardscape_ny 2 жыл бұрын
1 inch is ideal and doesnt make you have to dig more prep. 4 inches of crusher base and a inch of fine base is more than capable of making them not sink. people 3-5 yr warrenty patios with that base.
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 2 жыл бұрын
More than 1 inch of fines make it more likely to sink or shift. I try to use a minimum of 6 inches of clean, crushed base stone and 1 inch of clean crushed stone for bedding material. ✌
@Al-xk7wl
@Al-xk7wl 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheChristianHardscaper very well presented! Is the 6 inches of crusher base based on three-quarter inch stone, and the 1 inch fine based on 3/8 inch stone? Just want to make sure I do it right as I’m in clay soil, with frost up in Toronto. Thanks!

Awesome job, brother. Which specific pavers are you using? I watched all of the videos on this job and the only thing this armchair detective could figure out was that they are Genest because there was branding on the wrap when they were on the pallet. Grand Baxter? Grand Katahdin? Any help would be appreciated. I heard in one of the videos that this job is in Charlton. Wish you were a little closer as I'd love to have you do my patio. I know Charlton is an hour 15 minutes from me because I head out that way monthly to Tree House. Thanks!
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! These pavers are made by Genest. The main pavers are called Grand Katahdin and the color blend is called Granite. The border pavers are Genest also, they are called Eastern Bay with a color tone called charcoal. I live close to Charlton, are you in Massachusetts or near by state?
