Why are people bashing on Metallica? As far as they're concerned they're just making tributes to great NWOBHM bands. Ulrich came to America as true metal head and introduced Hetfield to all of these great English bands. He even followed Motorhead around for one of their tours and was one of the first people in America to start the wave in the West. Metallica's doing a community service by introducing new fans to all of this great old school heavy metal. To all interested in further information I would greatly recommend to read The Sound of the Beast: The History of Heavy Metal.

This is thrash. It has all the elements of thrash. Fast tempo, thrash guitar tone, raspy, shouted vocals, and raw aggression. People want Metallica to be first, and they were. They were the first thrash band. But there were thrash songs before there was a thrash band. Venom's first album was thrash too, and the first thrash song was probably "Overkill" by Motorhead. That's the song that launched the genre.
