I think that Lu truly was in love with Guzman, but I don't think he loved her the way she wanted. I think that Guzman was just scared of losing everyone who he cared for, like Marina. It was easy and familiar to always come back to Lu since he knew she'd always be there. He took her for granted. Lu definitely knew deep inside that he didn't feel the same way she did but was in denial. And in season 3 when Lu rejected him for the first time, i think it was a huge relief for her, and a wake up call to Guzman to start letting go. He did love and care for her, just not enough and she finally realized that

It's when she stops forcing and faking bonds is when she gained real ones. She truly needed this character development. I was so happy when she rejected Guzman's offer to dance because it not only shows that she's over the idea of them being a couple, but she's also aware that he only comes back to her when he's down.
