I babysat a miniature toy chihuahua for three weeks. His name was Charlie. I will never forget Charlie. My first encounter with Charlie was wow are u a real dog? His look set me down. Charlie was so much fun. At the time I lived on 160 acres and lost my beloved dog to a complication. Anyway the animals were encroaching, I looked at Charlie and said " You may be little but u still pee like a dog". Away we went. We would race across the big front yard together, and I would reverse my backpack stuff him inside and trapse into the field. The stubble was bigger then Charlie. He loved every minute of it. I have wanted a Chihuahua ever since. Love u Charlie, I know ur gone now but my heart is with U. Thank u!

I got my cutie September. He was 8 weeks old. Anyway I’ve been saying no bite since then and now he is 5 months old. He hasn’t completely stopped biting but he has gotten a lot better. He’s so adorable. He’s a dear head. So cute. I can’t stop kissing him and everyone in the house feels the same way ❤. I try to teach him to sit by doing the push him backwards with a treat like you showed in your video but so far he’s just too excited to do it. So cute 😂. I have him in a crate that I bought from chewy with a little fence around it. He sleeps in his crate at night because I’m so afraid he will fall off my bed. Anyway I also bought a pan that has a dip in the front so he can walk in and do pee pee. I put a pad in it. I love the setup I have and so does he. He plays all day around the house and sleeps all night. He comes out of his crate pees on his own and goes right back to sleep. I’m very surprised and happy that he learned all of this so fast. So cute 🥰. Once in awhile he’ll have an accident and pee because he’s playing so hard and forgets. So cute 🥰 anyway we love him to death ❤😂😍😘🥰😃😂

I just tell her I don't want a fighter or a biter and like you say, give her a toy she can do this with. 😍Margo and Sabrina.😘 I did exactly what you said ,with Dempsey. However, he does a kind of pretend 'I'm going to bite your nose ' , when he wants me to play. He sits on the arm of my chair or on my shoulder a lot and when he's bored with snoozing or looking out of the window he stands really close to my face and stares at me.😂😂 I ignore him so he gives a little whimper, then I ignore him again he does his daft noises and sometimes gives a big sigh. I love it! If he catches a hint of a smile that's his signal for tail wagging ,bouncing around and putting his mouth to the end of my nose. I do my scary Zombie growl and he runs around the furniture.😂😂 One happy Trish and one happy Dempsey. Sometimes I start the playtime off, by doing a deep voice ' Here I'm coming to get you!' Because of how we bonded he has been easy to train. He's so funny. Love to you all. Keep safe 💖🙋🐶

My boy were awful biter when he was puppy... everyday my hands were full of scars and new small wounds... little devil... 😅😂 so every time when he started to bite too hard I made little sound, quit the play and left the room for while. Dogs don`t want to hurt their pack members so he will understand to be more gentle if you show him " stop you hurt me, dont bite me so hard " and quit the play. Keep repeating it until dog will get the hang of it. It will take time at least doing this made him stop biting and nowadays he play gently

linsam1962 Our year and a half old male Chi does the same thing. We play with him and he bites when playing but when he bites to hard or gets too rough we say “ no you’re biting too hard or you’re playing too rough” , we also stop playing if he doesn’t stop being too rough & tell him why we stopped playing, they’re smart so they catch onto it pretty quick. He still gets excited or carried away playing sometimes & gets too rough so we have to call him out on it with “ you’re playing too rough” , he usually calms it down & also the same with biting too hard. It amazes me how smart he is. Good luck!!!!

What can I do? I want them both to love each other and play together... thank you 🙏🏾

Hey there, so first off, don’t loose heart. Usually it takes time and eventually, they become best friends.I recommend to ignore the Pom while you get down on the floor with the baby. Feed the baby tiny bites of finely chopped chicken from your hand. Eventually the Pom will want some so badly she will likely join you on the floor. When she does, share the tiny pieces with her too. But ONLY when she’s playing nice.

Be patient and consistent. 2 months is very young, the age of a human baby and so she will need consistent training as she continues to grow and develop into the toddler age. Getting a puppy is a very big commitment. It can take up to a year of consistent training before they fully understand their boundaries. Keep up the good work 👍

I have a new Chihuahua puppy Lexi. She’s my first Chi and she’s only 9 weeks old. I love her so much! I’m having trouble getting her to sleep in a crate. She wants to be with me all the time and of course the potty training is not going very well because of it. How can I get her used to being in a crate without crying?
@SweetiePiePets4 жыл бұрын
Tamara Petrie hello and congratulations on your new sweetie pie. So first off, keep in mind that nine weeks is still very young and she may well need a lot more time to adjust to her new surroundings. Likely she’s used to being with her mommy and littermates all the time and this is the first time she’s had to learn self soothing techniques. It can take several weeks before they become comfortable being in a crate alone. Give her lots of reassurance and love and a little baby talk (mine seem to love that for some reason) but when it is bedtime, put her in her crate and let her cry it out. If you come in to check on her when she’s crying, that reinforces the crying so I recommend as long as you know she’s safe that you just let her cry it out until she gives up. Usually about three days of that and they stop crying in their crate. You also need to make sure she’s eating enough calories to make up for all the energy she spending complaining 😆. Make sure to keep Nutra Cal on hand and to monitor her daily intake. Hope I answered your question and good luck to you and your sweetie pie 🐶❤️

Tamara Petrie Try getting a Baby Blanket and keep it next to you a lot during the day so it picks up your scent & put it in Lexi’s bed with her at night. Also get a small stuffed animal that is made for a baby or dog so it doesn’t have eyes, nose etc... that she can choke on, & do the same as with blanket & put that in her bed too for her to cuddle with. Make sure her bed is in a warm area away from air vents, away from fans & direct contact of air conditioning, Chis like to be warm but not hot. Try these things & hope they help. Good luck with your new baby.😘💕🥰😍♥️

Hi, I just found your channel a few days ago. We have a 14 week old sweetie Pie named Koda. He is awesome, but has the issue of biting. I have been binge watching and was just saying to my husband I did not see a video on biting and then this popped up in my notifications. I am on the right track, the issue is the other members of the home thinking it is funny to get him to bite. ugh. I also have an escape artist, any suggestions on that topic? Thank you for this channel.
@SweetiePiePets4 жыл бұрын
Yvette Betzwieser oh wonderful, I’m so glad you joined sweetie pie pets ❤️ I hope this technique works well for Koda. Yes you’re so right, the whole house needs to be consistent with his training so he is not confused! Hopefully everyone can get on board with his training. Koda’s an escape artist, huh? I’ve had a few of those myself. Are you looking for crate solutions that are inescapable? Or just to in general find ways to deal with his wanderlust? If you need an inescapable crate, my favorite is this one: amzn.to/2QeFygZ If he’s just a curious boy in search of adventure,, I recommend to leash train him and take him out on plenty of adventures with his family. Turn it into a positive activity with his entire “pack”. We enjoy bike rides and walks which help them exert plenty of energy! I hope that helps. Give Koda a snuggle from me and my sweetie pies! 🐶❤️

@@SweetiePiePets Thank you for getting back to me. I actually have one of those fences on order and should be here on Friday (ordered after I saw in your video). I hope that he can not figure out how to climb out of this one. I believe his issue is he does not like to be left alone, (luckily for him, I don't like leaving him alone, but sometime you just need to) that seems to be the only time he tries. Thank you again for all of your knowledge and experience.

Hi, I recently I adopted a Chihuahua. She is just 8 weeks old and she is showing so much aggressiveness I am shocked! As soon as I pick her up she starts growling and bitting! I put her down so she can calm down and hold her up again and there we go....growling and bitting. I am extremely concerned she will grow up like this. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I need to find advice on stopping an adult rescue chihuahua from biting when he’s scared or mad.
@SweetiePiePets Жыл бұрын
My advice is lots, and lots, and lots of patience and calm assertive leadership demonstrated by you, his human pack leader. He has obviously been neglected or abused, and has a lot of trauma to work through. Punishing him or yelling at him when he does, this will only increase the behavior. He hast to learn to trust and respect humans, and that can only be done through consistent, kindness, patience, and gentle love ❤️

I want to breed my 2.5 pound chihuahua Midge, she has a beautiful fa ce! What do you think?
@SweetiePiePets3 жыл бұрын
Hello, it’s very, very risky to breed such a small female. I have 19 years experience breeding chihuahuas and I wouldn’t breed a female that small.
@caterina383 жыл бұрын
Thankyou Kelly, I just weighed Midge again and she is now 3.2 pounds. Do you think this is a better weight for breeding? I would only attempt with a long term mentor with the breed. I also take what you say very important and appreciate your experience and knowledge. Please let me know your thoughts. She is so gorgeous, but if you still feel risk involved, I will not pursue. Thank you Kelly...

I have 4 kids (2 are 2 year old twins) and she has been getting aggressive (biting and growling) a bit after she got her first vaccines which is fine and now when she feels maybe closed in or like my toddler twins are being too rough . How do I make sure it doesn’t continue ? I also know I need to teach the boys that the biting isn’t her being funny and that it means to get away. But I want the dog to like everyone and don’t want her growing to not like the twins. Also, her ears arnt sticking up and she’s 12-14 weeks says the vet

Hello, I recommend to keep her in a little habitat area similar to the setup in this video: UPDATE: Potty Training your Chihuahua 100% Fool Proof Method | Sweetie Pie Pets by Kelly Swift kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJuTmqp-hb-borM She is trying to tell the 2 year olds she wants space but they are all 3 having difficulty communicating with each other since they’re all babies. Her own little habitat area will help her feel safe and in control. Then bring her out of the habitat enclosure 3-4 times per day for 10 minute training session. She must wear a harness and a leash for the sessions so you have control of her. Have the kids sit down on the floor and remind them to be calm and quiet. Sudden moves and loud noises are scary to a tiny dog. Give the kids tiny prices of chopped chicken to hand her as rewards for being good and following commands. At first she won’t know how to follow any commands, but that’s the point of the training sessions. She needs to learn to trust everyone in the family, including the two year olds. These sessions will help. Keep it calm, positive and consistent and she will eventually get it.

I'm kinda wondering something. when two of my female dogs each hade a litter and they grew old enough to be by themselves we kept two males. they were half siblings because they hade the same dad and they used to love each other to death. and before I was forced to give them up they were constantly fighting, even after they were fixed. can u tell me why they went from loving each other more then anything to wanting to kill each other?
@SweetiePiePets4 жыл бұрын
It sounds like they both wanted to be alpha male. If both boys have a dominant personality it will be very difficult for them to get along. If one had been a girl they likely would’ve gotten along better because dog etiquette allow for one dominant male and one dominant female
@rainbowlightning51564 жыл бұрын
@@SweetiePiePets that dose make sense but I was kinda curious why it was still happening after getting them fixed. it was just kinda wierd to see them go from loving each other to wanting to kill each other.
@SweetiePiePets4 жыл бұрын
@@rainbowlightning5156 yeah, even after getting fixed they still maintain their basic personality. I’ve had a few myself over the years that just do not get along. Years ago we got a dog named April and for whatever reason my Tina absolutely hated April. No matter what I did they would not get along. Eventually we had to rehome April because Tina just wasn’t having it 😢 Then we got a different dog named Jewel and she had a much more laid back personality. Jewel never tried to dominate Tina so the two of them got along just fine

I have a Chihuahua pup she will be 6 weeks old on the 8th of September I'm texting her how to set at the moment and she is doing great but her Attention span is really short. how do I get her to pay attention?
@SweetiePiePets Жыл бұрын
Oh how fun!! So it’s best just to work within the confines of her attention span. Puppies have short attention spans just like kids do so keep her training sessions short for now. It’s more important for her to learn to LIKE the training sessions so keep them short, upbeat, and fun for now. As she has success, you can extend the time of each session. Best of luck ❤️

Hi Kelly. As usual I'm loving your fun informative videos!! I was wondering, Im getting my puppy chi in July, but Ive heard so much about chihuahua aggression. I really feel it may have a lot to do with how we raise them and a bit of personality. I was wondering whats your opinion and how to prevent it. Early socialization perhaps??
@SweetiePiePets4 жыл бұрын
Hello Cybella bella and congratulations on getting your sweetie pie in July! I'm so excited for you. Yes, early and consistent socialization is key to prevent a Chihuahua from developing bad habits. Hopefully you're getting your baby from a family breeder who hand raises their puppies and gives them tons of daily love and attention from day one. This is essential for trust building. Your Chihuahua needs to learn to trust humans - especially her own humans who she should also view as her pack leader. In the wild, the pack leader is well respected. Generally it's because they've EARNED the respect. You can earn that respect by doing trust building exercises with your sweetie pie from the moment she arrives. Talk softly and lovingly to her and show her the ropes. Correct her in a calm, assertive tone when she makes a mistake - but only if you catch her IN THE act. If you find she made a mistake when you didn't notice (such as making a tootsie roll behind the couch) just clean it up and act like you didn't notice. She won't understand the problem if you try to get after her later. Dogs often follow the lead of their pack leader (you) so maintain that calm, positive energy, give her tons of love and affection, and she will WANT to do whatever you tell her. Aggression often comes from unsocialized dogs who have never had good leadership. I wish you and your sweetie pie all the best. 🐶❤️
