I don't think I've ever read anything by Toni Morrison that wasn't stellar. 8.5/10. I didn't know that she only wrote two short stories though. That saddens me to find this out.

Solid short story review. I enjoyed Crypto dropping some historical knowledge as it's so vital to understanding this story. Morrison is really good here at providing a lot to think about in a short bit of writing.

@@TheCodeXCantina I have read Song of Solomon, Sula, Bluest Eye and Jazz. Of those, Song of Solomon is my favorite, though I think they are all good. I haven’t read Beloved yet, which is her supposed masterpiece. I know it’s Brian’s favorite. I think Song of Solomon is exceptional.

Hello, I came across your KZbin channel and decided to listen to this video. While listening to your summary and review, I realized that this isn't a short story but an excerpt from Toni Morrison's novel, God Bless the Child, published in 2015 (her last published novel). It's a short novel, and hope to hear an expansive review. I love the video and wanted you to know that Recitatif is still the only published short story.

I haven't read either of her short stories, but this does sound like she packed just as much heavy hitting prose as she does her novels. I will have to pick these stories up.😊

@@TheCodeXCantina Though I haven't read all of her novels, and by no means an excerpt on her work, my favorite, and what seems to be her most popular, as well as where everyone starts, is "Beloved."

Another author you guys have added to my list to work through. Y’all have really been hitting it out of the park this year for me - introduced me to my top favorite literary author, Zora Neale Hurston, also started me down the rabbit hole with Kurt Vonnegut….Banana Yoshimoto and now Toni Morrison. I am really excited to get to Morrison - I’m about to go hunt up her novels and see if I can find one to suggest…for all of us. LOL In Mississippi where I grew up, this is still a huge issue. People whose skin are not considered “the right shade” still get mistreated…by both races. It is so sad to me…but what is the most sad is that the person who is getting mistreated ACCEPTS this as “just the way it is”. It’s heartbreaking. Skin color doesn’t change the fact that you are HUMAN. Ugh.
