This pedal is excellent. I love how dynamic it is - from subtle gain to rip roaring crunch with only a turn of the volume knob. I would have to say it smokes all previous BOSS overdrives/distortions. Very versatile. Great job BOSS. Great demo too. This video helped convince me to buy one. Glad I did.

Absolutely LOVE this pedal. It’s literally a myriad of Marshall tones in a stomp box

The Power Stack makes any guitar sound like a monster! That Fender Strat sounded massive with the gain knob at only halfway up, and the humbuckers on the Les Paul really came alive with the gain cranked all the way up. This pedal can mimic that wall-of-Marshalls sound to a tee!

@ritzenhauf Thanks for checking out the video. He's putting the pedal through a Fender Deluxe Reverb amp that's miked. Yes, the voice lav mic is mixed with the amp's miked signal.

This is a truly awesome pedal. Among Boss pedals, it’s near the top of OD/distortion models.

I actually bought this one today and I must say it's the best Boss Distortion Pedal ever made. I've tested them all. My favourites were MD-2-HM-3-HM-2-DS-1-OD-3 The MD-2 sounds also very good on low gain settings and so does the ST-2 but with a more midrangy kinda tone. It's very marshally and sound on my Fender really good, almost like my Marshall. A very good pedal but don't buy it if you have no good tone in generel because then nothing will help :P Btw the pedal sounds in real a lot better..

The ST 2 is cool but I only wish they had a dedicated drive knob.WIth the sound knob down to the crunch side, some of the tones down there are great but lack drive. The drive goes up with the tone changing as you turn the sound knob clockwise. Is there anyway we can add drive by using a different pedal before it,like a gain pedal, or cranking up the level on a OD/DIst pedal used before it?

just tried it: perfect jazzy, not even crunchy drive down! jazzier than my Mad Prof Royal Blue, which is... anywhoopy: AYE FANTASTIC PEDAL: CLEAN CHEAP STRAT COPY SINGLE-COIL NECK PUP : DOESNT HUM DOESNT SCREAM FOR MORE, than I wish I had a second one..., and I tried it with my Yamaha Pacifica 112V, which I havent played for like 4 or more weeks..., and: the Grey T Yam was in tune ( and set( by me) for the light touch I can play...!!!!! I thought I had to balance the action of the Gray Yam by changing a spring or loosening the springs, but no: its set for soft touch, always the low E is a bit smething... ( my strings: 9-11,5-15-22-30-42) (((( might buy a 40 or a 8,5 ...))))) mindya, I do have tried the 12 instead of the 11,5, and my guitar said no way man!

How do you get that sound with your les paul when you first pick the string? its in the part where you're playing the first Em pentatonic lick with your bridge then your neck pickup... you can hear sort of a... "pick attack/punch" sound..

@wedge070 no analog distortion pedal will achieve what ur looking for..the best i could recommend would be the boss ml2..its a good stomp box recreation of a dual rectifier or a huges and kettner. most guys use it for its death metal sounds but when i used it properly it sounded pretty damn close to dream theatre stuff

@wedge070 I play a G&L Custom Strat through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and I have the Hardwire Valve Distortion and it's a great pedal, but the ST-2 has much more gain than the Hardwire in my opinion. The Valve Distortion doesn't have enough gain for me so I'm buying a Pro Co Whiteface Rat so I can cover both ends of the spectrum.

i suppose if you have an amp with a gain control you'll be able to achieve what you want, as simple as that..; as far as im concerned , im gonna buy this pedal and pair it with a peavy royal 8 all tube class A amp for an appart use.. and my amp has the gain control separately..

Ok... looking for a good hot dist pedal to give good rock tones, but can do some satriani stuff lead wise when the gain is cranked... dont want the over the top metal pedal.. already have a metal zone.. looking for step down pedal. Im down to this pedal and the hardware valve dist pedal... this pedal seems to be real versatile....

I don't usually like distortion pedals--even the expensive "boutique" ones--to me they sound too fuzzy and farty. But this is different--it actually does sound like an overdriven power amp. I may just be converted!

Man, BOSS' own demos of this pedal sucked, probably because they were running it into CUBE or Jazz Chorus amps, and I was repulsed. But run into a proper all-tube amp this thing has got a TON of chutzpah! "Like" from me, fantastic demo!

@jthrcstll There are some other youtube videos with people linking them to overdrives. It sounds meaty. I have a MT-2 Metal Zone (which provides a super compressed scooped metal sound) but doesn't have the dynamic range I really want. I play through a Crate V18 2x12 all tube, and the ST-2 is my new favorite toy. Definitely great addition for a person with a single channel tube amp.

@grzana2429 Well... there's plenty of "cheaper" all tube amps now in the market (Vox AC-4TV, Night train, Marshall Class 5, Marshall Haze, Orange Tiny Terror). Problem with emulations is that it's never really "enough" and you end up spending heaps of money in getting several different components trying to emulate a tube amp And still it isn't the real thing. If you're only playing at home, an emulation pedal maybe enough.

As with most distortion pedals of this sort it doesn't quite hit the mark. It doesn't seem to have the throaty growl that say, my 1978 Marshall JMP MK II 50 Watt Lead has, and just sounds "Buzzy" to me. I want a distortion pedal to compliment my rig not over power it. Nice try Boss, keep trying you'll get there. JMHO.

Dynamic? Very! Good distortion? That's a matter of personal taste. Does it sound like a tube amp? Well. He is running it through a tube amp. So how can U tell if it's the actual pedal? Seems to me that the way to sell guitar gear now is to use words like: "Tube Like", "Overtones", "Amp like", "Amp-esque"... If you want it to sound like a tube amp . guess what ... get a tube amp.
