In this video I am demonstrating the DW Collector’s Series Metal Snare - Aluminum. This is a fantastic sounding snare drum that feels really great to play. It is so nice when a drum gives something back to the player and this drum definitely does that. There is something in the construction of the shell, coupled with high-end DW hardware, that gives the drum some real life and that just makes it easier to play. The drum I am using in the video has chrome hardware but there are five different hardware colors that you can choose from to customize the look.
The drum shell is 6.5" x 14", 1mm heavy-gauge aluminum with an integrated reinforcement hoop. It comes with DW's triple flanged True Hoops, True Pitch Tuning Rods, MAG throw-off, and three position Butt Plate. Everything comes together to make one beautiful drum that records very well in the studio and will easily cut in any live situation.

u can get five different hardware colors like call a customer service rep and they will special order it from dw even the dw website has that info

I'm debating this over the Colectors Nickel over Brass. I think i'm leaning more towards this sound. What would you guys suggest?

I have a dw black nickel over brass and it is very good, but that dw aluminum is very, very, very goooood! I want one too!

Well, if you're looking for a drier sound with less ring this would be the drum, now the other snare will be a little warmer and "wetter." Now as a country/ blues player I would personally choose the chrome over brass snare. Just my preference.

Its the stock DW snare head. But its basically a remo coated ambassador. Or Evans G1 Aquarian Textured Coated👍🏾👍🏾

I've had one for Almost a year now , being my main SNR... 3-4 rehearsals a week + gigs every other weekend + sessions I've yet to dent it

how does metal sound compared to there maple?

It depends on what material it is, for instance in this video aluminum sounds like maple in my ear. But brass vs maple there’s a big difference

Hello, HDDrummer! Naturally, both are aluminum drums and are tonally similar because of that. That said, other than their aesthetic differences, they primarily differ in their hardware. The DW has a three position throwoff that allows for more fine tuning of your snare wires. Although tried and true, the P88C throwoff on the Ludwig is a bit more primitive. Thanks for the interest!
