@@ili626 Hi, Tom. Great question! There are no keyboards where the weight of the keys can be adjusted. However, the velocity can be adjusted on most keyboards so that you don't have to press down as hard to trigger a loud note. I would recommend organ style "waterfall" keys if you are looking for the lightest touch. Feel free to reach out with any other questions. Thanks! Does the Korg Kronos have a lot of velocity setting options?
@bennyfarinacci1340

For people looking to change the velocity on their midi controller .. some have the option built in to the controller and some don't. If they don't you might need to use a plugin in your DAW. I use Reaper (midi velocity control) it's actually better than the built in version because there is more options on how you want the curve and dynamics to react.

I just hooked my M-Audio Keystation 49 MKIII to Cakewalk by Bandlab and it's working but there is no velocity sensitivity. The notes are either on or off. How is this adjusted? On the Keystation itself or in Cakewalk?

Hi there. there thanks for a great video. looks like you are adjusting velocity settings in the 'scene' area of the menu. noticed there is a system setting with the same velocity parameters....what is the difference? how can you save a velocity setting you like?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 2 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your interest! In the case of the RD-88 Jacob is using in this video, you can change the velocity settings globally in the system settings, or you can change them individually for each Scene. In other words, changing the velocity curve in the System menu will affect every sound on the instrument that responds to velocity, while changing it in a Scene will only affect the sound(s) used in that particular Scene. Either way, you can save the settings when you find a configuration that works for you. Hope this helps a bit - feel free to contact me directly with any further questions, and thanks again! so velocity changes the tone or just the loudness ?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your interest! In most cases, velocity is going to mainly affect the volume of the sound coming from the keyboard. However, it depends on the specific patch and instrument you're playing. For example, on a synthesizer patch, you could assign velocity to also affect the filter cutoff so the sound gets brighter as you press the keys harder. Even with a good sampled piano sound, they'll use different samples for the lower-velocity, quieter sounds - just like an acoustic piano doesn't sound exactly the same when you play softer or louder. Hope this makes things a little clearer, and feel free to contact me directly with further questions! Caleb Lowrey, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1620, caleb_lowrey@sweetwater.com

Hi there greetings. I just bought a used Casio Privia PX-870 and I notice my double/triple taps on keys are not very responsive. For example if I play the same key at a rapid pace, it wouldn’t register and instead of hearing the key 5 times, I only hear it 3 times. Please help me solve this issue, I’m new and idk what these settings do

Hi, thanks for your interest! There isn’t really just one correct answer to your question, since it really depends on your personal playing style. My advice is to experiment with different settings, playing the same tune or phrase on each setting so you can hear and feel how it affects the instrument’s response. Once you find a setting that sounds right to you, that’s the right setting! I hope this helps a bit - feel free to contact me directly with further questions, and thanks again! Hi thanks for the clear explanation! I have a question, I have a Kawai VPC1 and I am just starting to use it with Keyscape. My goal is to set up a curve that is as much as possible close to a real piano feeling since I usually play live with real gran piano. Considering my goal what kind of curve do you suggest to set up on my kawai VPC1. Thanks in advance man!
@sweetwater
@sweetwater Жыл бұрын
Hello, great question! Typically the default or neutral setting is actually designed to be closest to a real piano. However due to the subjective nature of these sorts of things, you will likely have to experiment to figure out what is the best for your specific needs. Thanks! I have question what is "off/on velocity" on piano roll (i use cubase pro 10.5)? Let say i press a C4 1/16 note on my midi controller, the velocity is 64 and off velocity is 46, i know what velocity is but what is off velocity? Is it when the time start the note is 64 and when it ends 46? Or what? Can someone please answer me or send me links to read? Thank you so much
@sweetwater
@sweetwater 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Pablito! Thanks for your interest. Note-off velocity usually has no effect on the sound, but some sound libraries use it to trigger samples upon releasing the note. For example, a good violin sound library might use it to simulate the sound of the bow leaving the string. The faster you release the key, the more staccato the note would be. Hope this helps, and feel free to contact me directly if I can help with anything else! Caleb Lowrey, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1620, caleb_lowrey@sweetwater.com

What if your keyboard doesn't have a velocity setting? Can it be done digital? I have a Acorn Masterkey 61 and I'm not able to find any settings for it at all, not even software wise.

Wow, WTF was that, dude? You showing off but not SHOWING how or WHERE to change the VELOCITY of the keyboard. I know you want to feel all warm and fuzzy inside from showing your mad piano playing skills... but you aren't living up to the title description WHATSOEVER.

@kadmus78 3 жыл бұрын
He did a great job explaining EXACTLY what the video title says: how to adjust the keyboard velocity according to your needs or playstyle. How it works and what to expect. HOW is by pressing buttons. WHERE - depends on what keyboard you're using. They're not all the same and this is not a tutorial for a specific one.

Strongly disagree. He is the first person who has explained velocity curves in a way that makes perfect sense to me. He did me a huge favor. Most other descriptions are ridiculously and unnecessarily complicated. He make it simple. As others have said, different keyboards have different velocity adjustments so you'll have to consult your manual or go online for answers. It's not hard.

the graph on 2:22 is exactly wrong lol. he makes little input and there is lots of output by the graph says the exact opposite. same thing for 4:40 i guess the people editing the video just went along with his hand gesture of describing the velocity response but they assigned the x and y axis to the wrong term. the curve would be correct if for example the horizontal line was "output" and the vertical one was "input" i am pretty confused how nobody in this comment section seems to have noticed this...

sorry, but take a look at how graphs work again. no one "noticed" anything because the graphs in the video are correct.
